Entrepreneurs - Is The Business Opportunity Too Good To Be True?
Times are hard and you want to start you own business to make some extra money, or maybe expand your existing business. You’ve seen a great business opportunity but is it a scam?
Well first of all – if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is a scam. Whilst a few people may make loads of money very quickly far more of them make their money by selling useless scams to the unsuspecting. Here are a few tell tale features that point to a scam so beware before your buy or sign anything:
• Is the product sold via an info commercial or advert that features large houses, fast cars and swimming pools. These aspirational adverts are there to lure you into believing that buying the product will give you the same life style.
• Are there very high estimated earnings with the proviso (in 4 font) that states that these are not the normal earnings. It is rare to make major earnings very quickly.
• Are you expected to make money primarily by recruiting others to sell the same products? Or is there much talk about down streams, or earning a percentage of those you recruit. etc. These are called pyramid schemes at the worst, and are illegal and mathematically don’t work. If they are MLM then they are even more hard work. Be very wary if the company sales literature and adverts only talks about recruiting others.
• Does the company require an up front fee or requests you to buy a start up kit before your start business? Be very wary. Often these companies make their money just on selling you these.
• Is the introduction, sales page, advert a very hard sell? A reputable company knows that it’s reputation is sufficient to sell to you and will give you time to make the necessary decisions.
• Once you have started or made the first purchase or the first contact are you pressured into buying other services or products that will make it easier to run your business. Beware, you are in a funnel where they will take as much money as possible off of you before you give up or run out of money.
• The business opportunity consists of only buying ebooks, CD’s or videos that will show you “how to”.
Before you start any new business opportunity do these things:
• Ask yourself if you would buy the product? If you don’t want the product, expect others not to want it either.
• Do an internet search on the product and the company and see what others have said about it.
• Wait a few days before you decide to make this purchase and think hard. The break will take you away from the compelling advertising.
Lastly, think hard about how it will fit into your existing life style and business. Good luck!
