Hard Working Entrepreneurs– Do You Procrastinate? Want To Find Some Extra Time?

Are you working very hard but don’t seem to be doing as much as you want to? The busiest person is not always the most effective – you could be wasting a load of your valuable time. Do you procrastinate?

Signs that all is not well: If you hear yourself saying one of these...
* If only I had all the facts
* Every one wants a decision from me
* Why don’t my staff do what I want them to?
* If only I knew what was going on
* If only I had more time

Procrastination: Do you keep putting off decisions or constantly ask for more information before you can make a decision? Are people always asking you for decisions? Do you have a pile of unanswered mail? Do you just seem too busy to do all that has to be done?

You are in danger of putting of small decisions until they become major problems, thus your workload is snowballing and you are becoming more disillusioned and stressed. Your staff are unhappy because they are constantly chasing for answers and directions. This is infuriating for those who rely upon you and very stressful for you.

Stop putting off today what can be done tomorrow. Keep a regular “To Do” List on your desk that has all the things that you need to do by a certain date. Set it up so that you a column for each day and a list of stuff to do in one week and in the current month. Put the most important stuff at the top and highlight the critical things. Work your way through them.

This method makes the important things stand out and gives you a great deal of satisfaction when you cross things off. Review the list each month and make sure that you don’t have a pile of things at the end that never get done!

Learn to make confident decisions with the information you have. Plan ahead and use the “To Do” List to set yourself small milestones and congratulate yourself when you have finished them.

Remember it often takes less effort to complete a task than keep putting it off!

Books that should be written Books that should be written - [quote:1m0dcpd7]"The Idiots Guide To Sticking With One Thing At A Time and Not Doing Something New All The Time" [/quote:1m0dcpd7] I myself am a 'constructive' procrastinator... I don't know if I'm alone in this. I have about six or seven projects I'm working on at any given time. I get one project almost done... then my interest is piqued by another project and I work on that... I get burnt out and move to another...I know I do this so I have it arranged such that once I get bored or burnt out with one project, I can step right back into project 1 - or 2 or 3, and get that a little bit more done before moving on to something else. As long as you're organized and know where all your reference material/idea sheets are when you're ready to get back to work on each project, it should be fine. I also find that by stepping away from a project - I still work on it in the recesses of my mind so that when I go back to it - it's with some good ideas that I wouldn't have had if I'd continued on with it originally. Maybe I should write a book on how to Procrastinate Constructively... I've actually thought about doing that...because most people procrastinate, don't they...and very few are ever able to stop.

Re: What is Your Favorite Thing About Owning A Business? Re: What is Your Favorite Thing About Owning A Business? - [quote="freddyb45":1t3lpfi8]For me it's the fact that all the time and effort you put in is worth a lot more, due to it making you "business" more profitable. Working for yourself is also a positive, although employing people you can trust is quite different.[/quote:1t3lpfi8] I like this idea. Working for yourself means you are investing in your own future, not someone else's, although there is value in working for someone else first to gain experience and confidence. Working for yourself does not automatically mean success, fame and fortune. For most entrepreneurs, it takes much work and dedication to get to the point of financial success and comfort - sometimes years. But the benefit is, again, you know you are investing in yourself and building equity for your own future. GT :-]
