Start with an Extraordinary Foundation
Recently, I
wrote about the sad plight of the “REI Junkie.”
This is the person who has made a career of collecting real estate
investing (REI) programs, from books to CDs and DVDs to seminars and
webinars. They are forever collecting
information and never closing a deal!
More than
likely, there is one single element that, if missing, may be the reason their
success is so elusive. Taking the
analogy of building a house, you might compare it to your own real estate investment
business. All of the finest materials
and craftsmanship in the world won’t help you without a solid foundation on which to build.
Therefore, all of the information, techniques, methods and systems in
the world cannot bring you success without first starting with the mindset of a
true Entrepreneur.
You have
probably done the research. You already
know that real estate can be the super-highway to financial independence. You have heard of the success stories and
want to emulate them. So, how do you upgrade
your life from ordinary to the extraordinary?
I recently
became acquainted with an extraordinary person.
His name is Robert White. His
credentials are as long as my arm. In an
interview with him, I learned that extraordinary results can be attained by
anyone if they are willing to learn and embrace 8 power principles. Visit our site for more details. Anyway, the principles
are timeless. If you were to examine
history’s most effective people, you would find that they have these 8 things
in common. It is truly amazing!
The
principles comprise the basis for an extraordinary foundation for any
Entrepreneur. They are universal, so the
industry in which you may start a business is irrelevant. Success comes, not by accident, but from a
solid foundation (or mindset) that is ready to create a life of meaning and
abundance. Maybe you’ve heard of people
who “sabotage their own success.” The
expression was coined about those who start with a faulty mindset. The point is that success starts from
within. A case in point is the fact that
most lottery winners are soon broke within a short time from winning the
lottery. They had no foundation and thus
their apparent success was no success at all!
That’s why I
insist that all new Team Members in my company go through a short course in the
8 power principles I spoke of earlier before they come on board for my
mentorship. It’s what I call a “good
insurance policy.” My students are also
my partners, so I want to see everyone achieve their personal best. Thus, we start by building on an
extraordinary foundation of personal development before even discussing the
first business-building techniques.

Re: Should you hire ambitious workers or employees with no goals
- According to Guy Kawasaki, he says "you should only hire and keep people that you'd hustle over to and engage in a conversation...Life is too short to work with people you don't naturally like-especially in a young, small organization" ("The Art of the Start" pg 112). I think the reverse is also true and I wouldn't want to work for anyone I didn't like or want to talk to if I saw him/her outside of the office.
In addition, Kawasaki also says "Steve Jobs has a saying that A players hire A players; B players hire C players; and C players hire D players...This trickle-down effect causes bozo explosions in companies. If there is one thing a CEO must do, it's hire a management team that is better than he is" ("The Art of the Start" pg 101). Kawasaki's quote is definitely in favor of hiring the ambitious worker, but do most CEO's even have the humility to admit that someone is better than them?
