Blog Statistics Can Help You Improve Your Traffic

Did you know that your blog's analytics can tell you what topics bring in the most traffic, as well as the best time to post content to your site?

It's true, for those statistics can help you write posts that people want to read and when they'll want to read them!

The statistics you want to pay particular attention to include:

With the information you learn from tracking these two stats, you can optimize your blog more effectively than by any other means. Here's how:

What attracts most readers to your blog?

Take a look at which posts get the most readers. Do you see any trends in which kinds of post get more traffic than others? Are there topics that are hotter than others? Maybe it is the style in which you wrote those posts. Dig in and find out what it is about those posts that attracts more readers, then repeat that quality often.

Watch for traffic spikes and capitalize on them.

When you get a particularly high traffic period, follow it up with a series of high-quality posts that show off your expertise. This will encourage visitors to come back, stick around, comment and share your posts. For best results, act on your traffic spike within 48 hours.

Maximize your highest readership day or days.

Take a look at the traffic your blog gets throughout the week. If there is a day or two that get spikes in traffic, those are the days you should be publishing your best posts. This will increase the chances that your post will be shared, and therefore increase traffic even more.

Increase the popularity of popular posts with link clusters.

According to ProBlogger.com, a link cluster "is a group of links that you can point at a post or page to improve its search engine ranking." When you know which posts are more popular, you can increase their search engine ranking and popularity by linking to them from other posts on your blog. Choose popular posts that use key words you're trying to rank high in and this technique could catapult your blog's traffic.

How do you track your blog stats? Google Analytics is a popular and free tool. Also, if you have a WordPress blog, there are several plugins that can monitor stats for you as well.

Re: Best Internet Marketing Strategy Re: Best Internet Marketing Strategy - Hi David, I agree about the Blogosphere. You have a smaller group that Blog, but do so on the premise that they think they should, but have never really considered the purpose of their Blog. Then I think there are a few SEO or Internet Marketing types that see Blogging as just another link building strategy. But the largest group of Bloggers, tend to be people who enjoy writing and discussing their topics of interest. Blogging is good for link building, but the true Blogger is a breed apart from the rest. They want to dialog, to debate, to have feedback and they are very willing to link to other worthwhile conversations that are relevant to their topic. I agree with you. These group of Bloggers obviously are passionate about their writing and together, they create huge conversation trails interactive and travel from Blog to Blog. But the evidence is clear with this group that loves what they write about. With comments enabled on a Blog and having a Blog tuned to a specific purpose you already have the evidence of original Social Media.
Re: Alexa Ranking Goals Re: Alexa Ranking Goals - LOL, I spoke too soon. Within a few hours of my post, Alexa updated the Traffic Rank on the toolbar. Note however that the 3 month Traffic Rank on Alexa.com has still not been updated...

EvanCarmichael.com suggestion EvanCarmichael.com suggestion - Maybe I missed it but I would like to suggest that a Blog be created to support the Forum. The idea is that in the blog you put in snippets of some of the biggest conversations with a 'read more' link to the forum itself. Setting up the Blog and clipping some conversations onto it wouldn't take very long.
Jen's Blog - Spam protection Jen's Blog - Spam protection - Jen, I like the Blog and just posted a comment to one of your articles. From my experience you need to implement some sort of SPAM capture tools. i use them on my Blog and it's been a life saver as I'm getting hit by spam atleast 5 times a day. I use Wordpress and they have plugins like Captcha and SPAM Karma installed.
