A System a Day Keeps the Creditors Away

Have you ever wondered why your customers keep returning to your business instead of going to your competitors?

Have you ever asked your clients directly why your business is so valuable to them? I’ll bet that if you have asked, you would have found their answer quite different from what you thought it would be!

Have you ever considered how this invaluable information could help to improve your business beyond your wildest dreams?

Information gained from actually speaking to your clients can enable you to develop your businesses Competitive Strategy rather than relying on your Operational Strategy.

So, what is the difference between a Competitive Strategy and an Operational Strategy?

Operational Strategy is actively doing whatever it is you do better than your competitors.

Competitive Strategy is all about offering your clients, something that is completely different (and better) than what you and your competitors are currently offering. Put simply its all about Informed Innovation in your business.

Competitive Strategy is not about an entirely new business or concept, we are not suggesting that you shut up shop and start all over! It is about your current business providing a unique, new, Innovative solution or service.

So, how do I come up with a new concept in an age-old trade or service?

This is where we look back to our original questions.

“Have you ever sat down for a quiet chat with your clients to ask them how they feel about your business and its services?”

Your clients are the experts in market needs, and generally, apart from buying them a coffee, the information is free!

This information from your clients, as well as talking with your family and friends is sure to drum up some positive, original and Innovative ideas and concepts that will liven up your business and provide your Competitive Strategy with the edge it needs.

Why does your business need a Competitive Strategy?

The answer is simple, and I am sure you have probably heard it before, you may even think about it every time you visit your Accountant... You need a Competitive Strategy because 4 out of 5 businesses fail within the first 5 years. Doesn’t this say something about operating your business the same as your competitors?

This is your opportunity to start applying Innovation and Systemization so your business can succeed and prosper into the future.

The book is: The System: A Story of Intrigue and Market Domination Terry Waghorn Perseus Piblishing 2002 Jacket description: In a world where competitive advantage is temporary at best - and illusory at worst - there is nothing more important to the business enterprise than creating a robust strategy and executing it with Steve. In The System, Terry WAghorn illustrates this universal theme through an action-packed adventure.

Re: Sources of Cash Re: Sources of Cash - Yes, these can be showed in a balance sheet. Creditors can be shown in the current liabilities section as they are short term liabilities. Loans from banks, shareholders, associates and parent companies are long term liabilities items and showed in the non-current liabilities section. Keep in mind that the mark-up on these loans is a part of your current liabilities and shown as Mark-up payable to S/H and Mark-up payable banks separately.
Re: What or Who Sparks Your Business Interest Re: What or Who Sparks Your Business Interest - I guess the business bug has always been with me as I was brought up in a public house. My parents were publicans, so were my grandparents, and later so were my brother and myself. I've also managed a café, co-owned a snack bar and also a second hand store, which is where I discovered computers and the Internet as someone came in one day and asked "can you sell this for me" referring to his computer. After that I learned how to build one from scratch, install the Operating System and then went online to find out how everything worked and how to maintain computers properly. All the time I was doing this there was a thought at the back of my mind telling me that I could make a living on the Internet and eventually I made up my mind to do just that.
Re: What is the Best Franchise? Re: What is the Best Franchise? - As a franchise owner the things that I look for in a prospective franchise is: 1- A proven track record. Too many franchises try and branch out long before they have perfected their product, don't become a guinea pig for them to figure out what works and what doesnt. 2- Support. A good franchise should have great communication with it's franchisee's and be available to meet it's franchisees needs. Youre only contact with them shouldn't be when you have a problem. Good franchises involves it's franchisees in building it's business. 3- A Great System. McDonald's doesn't exactly make a good hamburger but they have an excellent system of conducting business. The real value in a franchise is the system, not necessarily the product. There are many other factors in deciding on a franchise but many of those are personal to you and your situation. The best thing to do is to conduct as much research as possible and speak with every current franchisee you can and get a feel for the franchise. garyshouldis.com
