Productivity Tip: AutoHotKey = Typing for you
As a recruiter – there are some repetitive things that I have to do on my keyboard. I have to be honest – I type at “half the speed of smell” so I need every little bit of help I can get. I started using a freeware program called AutoHotKey. With it, I can set up scripts to type things out for me that I would usually type over and over during the day. With AutoHotKey – I create a replacement string of text that gets replaced as soon as the program sees a shorter version that I type out.
My favorite (and most used examples): When I am dealing with a new candidate that I want to set a time to talk to – I’ll send an email stating a time that I would like to phone them back. I ask them to confirm or pick alternate times that could work for them. Then I would switch to my calendar and create a tentative appointment reminder. Rather than type out ‘tentative screening’ I simply type ‘tss’ which AutoHotKey converts to: TENTATIVE SCREENING. When I receive confirmation, I go back to the appointment record and type over it with ‘css’ and it changes to CONFIRMED SCREENING.
I have about twenty other uses of AutoHotKey but I’ll let you figure out your own ways to use it.
