VoIP Integration with Cisco CallManager and Microsoft Exchange - Click To Read Article
Adding Unified Messaging to IP Telephony solutions has been a challenge especially with the administration and technology ownership. Cisco Unity 4 offers a very robust Unified Messaging solution with tons of great features and functionality. The downside to Cisco Unity can be implementation and integration with both Cisco CallManager and Active Directory. Voice Messaging is a mail component and should be left to the Mail Component on your network (e.g. MS Exchange) to manage. Well Microsoft has released Exchange 2007, which has Unified Messaging capabilities. All the integration needed for UM is already built in and the communication between Cisco and Microsoft is essentially a SIP connection. In a nutshell, it takes out a lot of the complexity from the solution. This article will outline the considerations with this design.
