Small Business Marketing with Twitter – How to Integrate Twitter with Your Website

When it comes to small business marketing, Twitter is an excellent tool. It is a great social media site to create relationships and help spread the word about your products and services. Twitter feeds are widely read, even by non-Twitter members. When it comes to web design there are many different methods of integrating Twitter into your website itself. Here are a few of the different types of Twitter integration methods that are available for promotion through your website and blog.

** The Widget

Adding a widget to your website or blog is probably one of the most popular ways of integrating Twitter as well as other social media sites into your site. Adding a widget is very simple. It is a simple copy and paste function. Usually these widgets are capable of containing several different social media networks, so you aren't limited to just Twitter if you want something a little different.

** Twitter Tools

Twitter Tools is a plug in for WordPress blogs. These tools allow you to integrate Twitter into your self-hosted Wordpress blog, quickly and easily. You can use Twitter Tools, not only to link to your Twitter page from your blog, but also to do much more. You can tweet from the sidebar of your blog, you can add an ever-refreshing digest of your latest tweets to your blog; create a blog post from each of your tweets and much more.

** Twitter Button

These nifty little buttons can be easily added to your website or blog. These are small, they require no special programming knowledge, and come in over 35 different designs. They can be added to any small space on your blog or website to entice readers to stop by your Twitter page. Since they are on the small side and come in a variety of designs, many people prefer these to the widget.

** TwitThis

Twitthis is a button that allows readers to repost your information on their own Twitter page. This is a quick and effective way to get back links and if the right tweeter takes an interest in your information you are sure to reach the height of twitterdom pretty quickly.

** Chirrup

This program is available to everyone through a small snippet of script. It allows you to create a page that will promote various references from daily tweets that are cohesive with your blog or website content. This can also help to promote retweeting by your readership.

** TweetSuite

TweetSuite is very similar to Chirrup except that it is only available to self-hosted WordPress bloggers. It takes the content on your site and references tweets from that day that are relevant to the information. It requires a little bit more work than Chirrup, but it is still fairly easy to maintain. It also offers a fully functional retweet button, to make the task easier than ever.

** TwitterFeed

TwitterFeed allows users to add tweets to the Twitter stream using any RSS feed. This can be utilized on both blogs and websites to let readers know that new content is available. It is an easy and fun way to keep your readership interested.

If you're thinking of adding Twitter to your small business marketing, be sure to check out these tools so you'll be able to integrate your Twitter feed with your website and blog.

Re: Twitter vs Facebook Re: Twitter vs Facebook - I use Facebook pages for Business and rarely ever use Twitter. I hace lost count of the no. of Hotels that I have visited, regarding their marketing campaigns, that may have 5k Facebook Fans and only 100 followers on Twitter. It is a lot more difficult to engage with people on Twitter and thus harder to gain traction. If you are a business like Nike, then Twitter is great, but if you are an SME, then focus on Facebook or LinkedIn (if you are providing a professional service.) You can always have your Facebook feed directly in to Twitter, so you can have a presence on both, but do the work on one. Also check out ping.fm for managing campaigns - it is a free tool, and a great time saver.
Re: Using Twitter To Double Your Traffic? Re: Using Twitter To Double Your Traffic? - I'm sure in many cases Twitter sends more traffic than Search Engines because most people don't have good enough SE rankings to get SE traffic. But anyone can get Twitter traffic. The problem is that Twitter traffic won't convert for the most part and SE traffic will. I'd venture to say that 98% of the time getting just 100 visitors from search is better than getting 2000+ from Twitter.

Re: Social Media Works If You Do It Right... Re: Social Media Works If You Do It Right... - Hi Michelle, Ah, but it seems hashtags are still being used by a lot of people - including Twitter! So I would still use them for your keywords. It's just that if you are searching for something on Twitter you can either go the #hashtag route, or do a direct search on the Twitter homepage. I guess you could use #hashtags when searching on the Twitter homepage as well! DH
Re: Facebook or Twitter? Re: Facebook or Twitter? - Thanks for the feedback guys! I personally started with Twitter and am now moving over to Facebook. I polled people on both my accounts and (not surprisingly) the Twitter people said Twitter and the Facebook people said Facebook! The actual order of my social media presence looks like this: 1) LinkedIn (with little success) 2) Twitter 3) YouTube 4) Facebook
