Is Easter the new Christmas? Is Easter the new Christmas? - I have no kids, and my nephew has been over in Germany for the last 2 years, and I'm not religious, so I haven't paid much attention to Easter recently. But the way I remember it - kids went Easter Egg hunting, and they got baskets full of chocolate eggs, and maybe a chocolate easter bunny. So a couple of days ago I went into my local Walmart, and as you enter they have shelf after shelf of material along the wall that is usually seasonal - gifts for Valentine's Day, Christmas, and so on. So, I saw gifts for Easter. What they were, were Easter Baskets, with huge gifts in them such as basketballs, or skateboards, or fairy costumes for girls - stuff like t hat, and they were selling for $14.95. And I'm thinking to myself, since when are kids given presents for Easter? Chocolate, yes, but expensive gifts that they shouldn't be getting except for birthdays or Christmas???
Holiday plans Holiday plans - First... Congratulations Evan! Have fun on your trip, jvprosperity. Everyone here have safe and fun holidays! Second...my family traditions are pretty well set... I'll be visiting my parents for Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I take my mom for drives... first to see the fall colors during Thanksgiving, and then to see the lights and decorations for Christmas... as she likes to see that kind of stuff and my dad prefers to sit at home and watch TV.... However, as a writer, and the owner of a trusty laptop, I'll be working even when I'm visiting..
Re: Holidays and websites Re: Holidays and websites -
I've got several webzines, on various topics. December 23 and 24 were down days, I'm sad to report that December 25 was a very BUSY day!! Don't people have better things to do on Dec 25 than surf the web!!!! Of course, on Dec 26, they all pour into the streets to return their Christmas gifts - that's very sad... So, anyway, my December has been good, except for the 23 and 24. (Good in the AdSense sense of the word. I'd hoped to get some Amazon business during this month, and got nothing!)[/quote:2k8j251l] I think many people are board on Christmas day and search the web more on any holiday.
Re: Google Calendar Re: Google Calendar -
Michelle makes a good point, although I'm not sure anything we do on the internet is "safe". From what I've heard, pretty much everything we do on our cell phones or internet is filtered from the top down. Who knows? The technology is definitely there to make it possible. Supposedly they do it to keep our nation safe, but sometimes it just crosses the line too much for me.[/quote:2rrdft2b] Mary you are right, today nothing is safe, your internet provider, cell phone company, google and other SE, all know exactly what you do, when and where. Michelle, nothing is safe anymore, the best you can do is protect your PC with antivirus and spyware, it's not riskier than shopping online.
Being kind this Christmas Being kind this Christmas -
My friend wants to go around the streets on Christmas night giving homeless people $20 bills. Maybe I'll tell him to start a fundraiser, find a few sponsors and hold an event instead? It could be for everyone who don't have a families to be with during Christmas? They can all get together on Christmas day and have some fun and get to know each other. (sort of like a little family?) It probably sounds better in theory though, lol.[/quote:ndy83sc7] Hi Nana, I think your idea is much better than your friend's for 2 reasons: a) It's not really safe handing out cash on the streets. If people know you're carrying a lot of $20 bills, you guys could get mugged. b) While giving homeless people $20 each is very kind, what's going to happen once they've spent it all? It's better to teach someone to fish than to simply give them a one-time fish. Maybe you and your friend could create a service to help homeless people get permanent employment??
