In today's communications marketplace, personalization and targeting of unique services to individual subscribers ultimately drives success. MNOs are exploring ways to leverage their assets, primarily subscriber information, to create highly personalized mobile services like subscriber data management.

The mobile phone has become a highly valuable item for the end-user for the storage of their contacts, messages and favorite content; it is an integral part of their personal & business life. The phone and its data are vulnerable to loss or theft, putting at risk the business that it generates for the MNO.

Nowadays, our mobile phone often stores not only our contacts' phone numbers, but also pictures, Mp3 files, birthdays, and much more. According to studies, it takes about 6 months on an average, for the subscriber to completely rebuild the contacts and have the same usage level as before the loss. This results in substantial loss of revenue that the mobile operator could have earned. SDM software facilitates the collection and aggregation of subscriber data across a range of networks, applications, and databases, and serves as a centralized repository for aggregated subscriber data. This is a remote backup service that allows users to save their contact numbers and photos and other data from the Handset and SIM card over the air to a centralized, protected storage site.

The solution uses SyncML, the mobile data synchronization (DS) standard used by mobile device manufacturers worldwide, to synchronize the mobile device data with the backend server. Once the subscriber registers, the mobile device is detected and SyncML setting are sent to configure the device. On the other side, there is a Java™applet on the subscriber (U)SIM cards, which detects any changes in the (U)SIM phonebook and allows to synchronize with the backend server.

The state-of-art web portal allows the subscribers to synchronize and manage their contacts and personal data.
