Article Overview: Creating a Facebook fan page is an excellent way to market your company or organization; leaving it unattended is asking for trouble. Too many companies are creating fan pages and then leaving them unattended, thus ignoring potential conversation. Although there is not a specific notification option for Facebook fan pages, there is a way to receive notification of comments on your posts, pictures, videos and notes.

The biggest mistake a company can make is to create a social network that no one monitors.

I teach people how to simply and effectively maintain a social network to market their service or product. I always explain that they need to have a way to monitor comments the minute they are posted. Too many companies are submitting status updates, pictures and videos and ignoring the page.

It's obvious to fans when there is no one monitoring a site. The American Heart Association posted an article on how overeating can change the brain's response to food. I posted a comment about the effects of corn syrup and three people "liked" the comment yet no one from the AHA continued the conversation. This was a seriously missed opportunity to gain donors, volunteers or just more followers. As I reviewed their page I noticed people are posting spam, other comments are left unanswered and there is no sign of anyone maintaining the site. This is all too common and the end result is a loss of interest and possible loss of clients or donors, depending on your business.

Here is a simple tip to monitoring comments on your fan pages: All you need to do is "like" each of your Facebook Fan Page updates. This not only allows you to be notified when someone comments on your post, it adds an update on your personal page which could direct a little more traffic to the fan page.

You should do this to all status updates, pictures, videos and notes. This way you will receive a notification any time anyone comments on your fan page allowing you the opportunity to continue the conversation or remove inappropriate content. Now that you "like" your comments, make sure your notifications are set up to alert you for that. You can do this my going to your personal profile page, click "settings" in the top right hand corner of your page, then in the drop down, click account settings. Once there, click notifications, scroll down to links and put a check mark under both boxes referring to links. Remember to hit "Save" at the end of the page.

Now that you are getting notifications, remember that you do need to check for spam once a day to make sure no one is advertising on your page.

Re: Awesome Resource: Instapaper Re: Awesome Resource: Instapaper - I love instapaper and if you ever get an iPad you'll get hooked on it. I use it for any text based web content. I'll also email myself other type of web content (ie videos or sites I need to check out) with keywords in the subject that will sort to specific folders I have. For example, if I put friday in the subject it'll go to my friday folder (when I look at interesting content from around the web), if I put sunday in the subject it'll go to my sunday folder (when I look at family admin tasks and salsa songs), and if I put admin in the subject it'll go to my admin folder (which I look at and attack once per month) These emails skip my inbox and go right to the folder so I only see the emails when I'm ready for them. I use gmail filters to automatically put them into the folders but I used to use Outlook rules - I'm sure whatever email program you use there are tools to facilitate the automatic filtering.
Hi Everyone! Looking for great mathy entrepreneurship books Hi Everyone! Looking for great mathy entrepreneurship books - I'm a young entrepreneur who's primarily interested in sustainable technology. As an engineer, I'm also fascinated with the math and statistics behind entrepreneurship. We all hear the scary numbers about how many companies last 5 years, but that's like saying that .1% of baseball bat swings lead to a home run- there's so many nuances that have an important (How good are most players? Are they even attempting to hit a home run? How many swings do most people take, total?) Two of my favorite books on the subject are: -Illusions of Entrepreneurship (affiliate URL removed by admin) which does a great job of breaking down the statistics by education, original income level, ect. The high-tech startups that dominate the headlines make up a vanishingly small percentage of total entrepreneurship (and very few entrepreneurs are Zuckerberg-aged) -Action Trumps Everything (affiliate URL removed by admin) (or free through Babson College: (affiliate URL removed by admin)) which is like 'entrepreneurship philosophy'. It goes beyond 'Illusions' dry stats and talks about strategies that are appropriate for such an unknowable world Does anyone else have suggestions for great entrepreneurship books?
Newbie from Africa Newbie from Africa - Hi Everyone! Just launched a new multi admin site "Naijayard" It's an Online Shopping Catalogue and is set to be a connection between buyers/sellers from Africa and buyers/sellers from other parts of the world! Its's quite new but I have my entrepreneurial muscles up. It cost a lot to build since its bespoke and multi-admin, but its worth it. We are on the promotion phase now, which has a whole different set of challenges, but I'll keep you posted. You can go look at the site and support the best way you can. It doesn't cost a thing to get a "Yard" (Store), so if you know any seller that wants to reach the African Market, this is one stressless medium. Suggestions are Welcome!
Patent Pending Status & gettin Royalties absent an agree Patent Pending Status & gettin Royalties absent an agree - Hi I am an inventor and I want to know what the consequences are, if any, if a manufacturer sells my product absent a licensing agreement with me. There are hundreds of manufacturers who can convert their manufacturing facilities and easily produce my product. And there are others who can pop up out of nowhere and produce my product as well. Also how long will take to get patent pending status?
how much for a franchise fee? how much for a franchise fee? - Dear Colleague There is no easy answer to this question. Things to consider:
The sizeof the Franchise Clent base Expected Turnover Intellectual Property costs (recoup) Number of Franchises Number of employees Original Set up costs Franchise admin costs An example: A franchise that I was involved in setting was to a simple "lawn mowing/home repair" franchise. The Franchise included national/local advertising - preparation of client lists - general admin - central accounting etc The Franchise involved 300-500 clients - and an annual turnover of about $300,000 . The annual franchise fee was $30,000. Hope that this gives you some idea Take care Ian
