How To Find A Good Answering Service

When running a successful business, there are a number of decisions you must make every single week. From how much stationary paper to reorder to where you are going to have the yearly conference, the number of decisions can seem as complex as they are diverse. One particular decision that may not be the most important you'll need to make still remains very important. This decision, of course, is what answering service to use. Luckily, finding a good answering service isn't as hard as it may sound. You may have seen advertisements in magazines or on the internet, but how do you know if the service you're considering is a winner?

The first thing you ought to consider is what kind of customer support does the company offer. There should be a number you can call any time of the day or night to get help. Unfortunately, many answering service companies just offer support by email. This should immediately raise some red flags because if a telephone answering service is unwilling to even provide you with a telephone number to contact them by, then how can you really trust them to do a good job? Likewise, you should beware answering services that are set up to sell you service like a physical product like a book or piece of furniture. By the very nature of this type of service, companies ought to take time with their customers to set up something that is professional, effective, and tailored to their needs.

Although it is far from the sole way to tell if an answering service is good, you should find out when the company was started and where. Even though there are poor quality answering services that have been around for many years, oftentimes it is helpful to get some background on the people you could potentially be doing business with. Sometimes this information comes in handy when it comes to past performance. Companies that have a history of happy and satisfied customers are a good indication that they will remain so for years to come. Like I said before, though, this is far from the only or even the most important factor to consider.

Similarly, you should find out if your calls would be outsourced to a foreign country where they don't speak English as a primary language. Despite the fact that these answering services can be very inexpensive, you usually get what you pay for. Few things are less annoying for your customers than struggling to speak to an answering service operator they can't understand and have no idea if they can understand or even if they got the message. If you are going to try and save money on an answering service in this way, you are better off not even having it. At least with voicemail you can be sure that your customers understand what you are saying in the message.

Lastly, an answering service should feel comfortable taking the time to answer your questions or concerns. These days, many companies we deal with treat you like a number instead of a person with specific needs and requirements. Although you might not think so, there are a good number of quality services that are more than willing to answer your questions and explain their features and how the service works. A good answering service will let you know about special deals they are running or other services they provide which may be of use to you and your company. Because this type of service is supposed to be personal and based on conversation with a real person, it only makes sense the sales and support process is as attentive.

Re: Service Or Product? Re: Service Or Product? - I agree with starting a Service-based Business in the economy. Here is what I think is critical: 1. Researching that your Service business has a market. 2. Marketing the Service with as much leverage as possible. 3. Product-izing the Service (aka Package Expert Knowledge). This will only help elevate you as "the" expert in your niche and make you accessible to people in different price points.
Re: Twiiter an sales Re: Twiiter an sales - Lots of different ways soldlab. I would start with: 1) Identify your ideal accounts and see if they're on Twitter. Get to know them and what they're interested in. Reply to their tweets and get on their radar screens. Before long they'll be checking out your profile and will be curious as to what you're selling. 2) Follow key words that relate to your industry. Find people who have a problem that you can solve and offer to help. Get involved in the discussion around your industry and be seen as an expert. Good luck!
Desire Desire - Great advice here but I think you need to take a step back. What do you enjoy doing? What is something you have experience and energy for? I don't think I've ever encountered a successful entrepreneur in a business he or she didn't love. Love what you do - that's why many entrepreneurs go for it on their own. Find a passion and then investigate the market. Tell everyone you know about the service/product you're offering and see if people are interested to hear more. Not to be repetitive but the key is - find something you wouldn't mind doing 80 hours a week for the next 20 years - because sometimes that's the amount of time it takes. Good luck!
Who Said Twitter Doesn't Work...? Who Said Twitter Doesn't Work...? - Last month, the BBC World Service programme, The Strand, featured 21 year-old Icelandic pianist/composer Olafur Arnalds. Arnalds achieved extraordinary success through his internet-led project to compose 7 tunes in 7 days, post them on his website and then post links to it via TWITTER. As a result his website got thousands of visitors eager to listen to his music, catapulting him to fame and bringing his music to the attention of the BBC, who featured an interview with him on the World Service programme, The Strand! So who says Twitter doesn't work? (HINT: It does help if you have something uniquely your own that other people want to get hold of...)
Re: Help with adwords Re: Help with adwords - We strayed a bit from our Adwords when the campaigns began to struggle a bit this year - we replaced our efforts into pure content creation (blogging) and have been seeing much better results. Find a knowledgeable web person - have them setup a blogging tool on your own website (so use your own instance of something like WordPress rather than having a blog on another application like Blogger.com etc.). Start creating your own content - you know your own business the best, and you are likely in the best position to generate serious amounts of content about your business. In the end you will still have this content, and it will be on your own site. Adword campaigns expire, yet the content you create will be yours forever! Good Luck!
