Time Tracking on the move!

All of us use time tracking tools on our desktop and the web which make things easier – from simple spreadsheets to dedicated time tracking tools or full-fledged project management suites. As a business owner, you need to be able to handle invoices, estimate costs, manage billing, collect payments and report your financial position as efficiently as possible wherever you are. If you are freelancer you will need to charge your clients by the hour. But all of these methods of time tracking have been traditionally computer-focused and are not suited for when you are on-the-go. Professionals who are on the move have started using smart phones for their business through some or the other apps. It seems like there is an app for everything these days —online mobile apps can save money in countless ways!

More and more businesses are discovering that solutions are in the palm of their hands. Improved inventory management, employee management, communication, field services, increased fuel efficiency and customer satisfaction, and decreased waste, downtime, and costs… These and other benefits are possible, and affordable, for all sizes of business. So why not a time tracking app? Whether you are a professional out to evaluate and analyze the time you spend on your business or projects or an individual who charges clients by the hour, time tracking is an important factor. Sometimes keeping track of the time spent on a project can get complicated, and when there’s more than one project going on, time can “get away” from you. If you’re always out and about, you probably like to get things done on your smart phone and would like an easy way of time tracking on the go as well.

With online time tracking system on your mobile you can track your time spent on work projects, assign tasks and use your phone’s built-in GPS to map your coming and goings. These powerful services are wonderful for billing clients by time spent on a project or on travel. Mobile time tracking solutions are increasingly vital business tools because more employees are working in remote locations. Whether they are working in a satellite location or at home, mobile time tracking technology can keep them connected and up-to-date with real-time data. Communication is faster and easier – not to mention more affordable. Documents can be sent and stored; content can be managed; data can be accessed and used. Working away from the office no longer means the employee is “out of the loop.” In fact, there is a whole new loop and it is not bound by geography or time constraints. Some of these Timesheet apps make it easier than ever to enter project time and related expense information. You can do it from anywhere your phone works. Just launch the app, enter your project data, and it instantly syncs with your main instance of web time tracking. You can even take pictures of your receipts and upload those on-the-spot.

These app developers have long focused on the more lucrative consumer app market, but experts expect that business apps will soon explode. There is no limit to what mobile technology can do, but perhaps the greatest benefit is that they provide cost-effective tools for small businesses to compete. Every business, whether small or large, needs to cut costs and become leaner; Mobile is one of the most effective ways they can do this.

Books that should be written Books that should be written - [quote:1m0dcpd7]"The Idiots Guide To Sticking With One Thing At A Time and Not Doing Something New All The Time" [/quote:1m0dcpd7] I myself am a 'constructive' procrastinator... I don't know if I'm alone in this. I have about six or seven projects I'm working on at any given time. I get one project almost done... then my interest is piqued by another project and I work on that... I get burnt out and move to another...I know I do this so I have it arranged such that once I get bored or burnt out with one project, I can step right back into project 1 - or 2 or 3, and get that a little bit more done before moving on to something else. As long as you're organized and know where all your reference material/idea sheets are when you're ready to get back to work on each project, it should be fine. I also find that by stepping away from a project - I still work on it in the recesses of my mind so that when I go back to it - it's with some good ideas that I wouldn't have had if I'd continued on with it originally. Maybe I should write a book on how to Procrastinate Constructively... I've actually thought about doing that...because most people procrastinate, don't they...and very few are ever able to stop.

I like the point that you brought out with "testing." Google has some amazing tools that can help website owners track everything. From Google Adsense reporting to Google Analytic to Google Conversion and most recently Google Goal Tracking. Between all of those tools a website owner should know exactly what type of traffic is converting & making them money and what type of traffic is not. I even use Google PPC to estimate organic search engine traffic! Website owners would do well to follow your lead and create a base, and then test off that base in regards to advertising. Jeff
