A signage solution consists of three major components: Digital Signage Hardware, software and content. The display devices, or hardware, can be CRTs, plasmas, LEDs, DLPs and LCDs and the information relayed can be in the form of data, images, animations and even videos. These solutions transfer information to a targeted group of consumers in real time, cut costs associated with static means of advertising and provide complete control along with enhanced flexibility. Dynamic in nature, these solutions allow content to be updated or changed as required without need for additional expenditure. Whereas print media and static advertising involve costs when information is updated, digital signage solutions have a onetime cost associated with them and offer higher return on investment.

These solutions can also be controlled over IP so that content and display can be changed from anywhere with a web connection and tailored to the interests of the target audience. They utilize software solutions which create digital signage networks that make dynamic, targeted messaging easy. The content is created and scheduled so that it is made available at the right time and appropriate location. This flexible interactivity cannot be rivaled by static advertisements. Users require a thorough understanding of the network and bandwidth availability and the solution should have the capacity to accommodate growth irrespective of how diverse or complex the future requirements may be.

Digital signage applications also require the content to be regularly updated as needed, through a scheduling system, or by linking in with an outside feed so that appropriate messages are displayed. Some of the numerous advantages associated with this technology are creating brand loyalty by enhancing the consumer experience, motivating and influencing consumer behavior, offering the opportunity to generate revenue and increasing sales by reaching out to a target audience at the right time. They can be easily set up and allow high resolution images to be displayed across multiple screens and do not have any limit on the number of messages which need to be shown.

The advertising media choose this technology very efficiently and it’s a need of current competitive market. Due to easy transfer of data around the world and great attraction facilities for the users it is very helpful for administration as well as for consumers.

Due to lower costs and higher returns, this medium is gaining popularity across both retail and wholesale chains. Digital signage hardware is also being installed to display information across all airports, bus and train terminals, hospitals, financial institutions, shopping malls, information broadcasting kiosks and entertainment facilities.

For instance, I'm a slim guy with bony fingers so I have no problem using my PowerShot SD630 Digital Elph. However, my friend who is 6'2 220lbs can't use my camera at all because his fingers are too large to press the tiny buttons.
