The web technology is on a rapid progress and the website designer who does not keep himself or herself updated with these progressive changes, cannot go too far in this industry. Moreover, with the competition surging in this domain, it has become all about survival of the fittest. This is why the website designers must add some unique and difficult-to-ignore features to their services in order to stand ahead of the competition.

The designer has to incorporate various strategies and tools in the website design in order to enhance its overall functionality. The three basic yet very important elements of a successful website are- visual appeal, visibility and conversion.

Visual appeal: A website that has all the information that the visitors need, but is not appealing enough to the eyes, is bound to be shunned by the target audience. So, the first impression of a website is made through its looks and presentation. The website designer must take up the role of a graphic designer, in order to work on its looks through creative and attractive images and graphics.

Visibility: Despite the good looks and visual appeal, a website cannot guarantee you a stream of customers if it is not prominently visible on the search engines and other platforms. Here, the website designer must ensure that adequate SEO strategies and techniques have been blended into the design.

Conversion: It’s no good if your target audience are visiting your website, staying there, but are not taking a positive action, that is necessary for meeting the objective of creating the website in the first place. When the conversion rate isn’t high enough, the website design can be termed as a failure. Therefore, the designer must incorporate all the elements that bridge the gap between you and your customers and show them the way through which they can contact you (this can be in the form of call to action buttons, subscription forms, request a quote forms etc.).

When the website designer applies these three key elements into the design, success isn’t too far. However, nothing is enough in the rapidly developing field of web design and development; therefore, one should consider the following tips to get better opportunities and gain success-

Tip 1: Become more than just a web designer- In today’s scenario, just one specialisation isn’t enough if you really want to rule the industry. Diversification and muti-specialisations are the way to go if you want to work on big projects and mark your superiority. A successful website designer shouldn’t just be that. He should be a developer as well as a graphic designer. However, if you feel that being best in one role is the right thing to do, you can think of hiring a team of graphic designers and developers, to give an additional dimension to your service.

Tip 2: The more you learn, the more you earn- Even if you have achieved success as a designer, you should never stop learning. The web technology has come a long way since its commencement and it wouldn’t be how it is now in the coming years. Therefore, to stay in demand, the designer must keep learning and acquiring new skills because nobody wants to work with an old-fashioned designer. Some of the latest tools and techniques that have emerged include HTML5 & CSS3, smartphones, tablets, Android etc.

Tip 3: Keep an eye on your competitors- In order to beat the competition, you have to beware of the moves being taken by them. Without using any unethical means, you must keep a tab on the marketing strategies used by them and improvise upon them or devise your own powerful strategy to gain higher preference by the target market. You have to effectively market yourself and give a good reason to your target audience to come to you instead of your competitors.
