Are you a woman thinking of starting your own business? Today there are almost as many women working in business as men. Not to mention the fact that women have increasingly measured up and performed just as successfully as their male counterparts. With so many resources available today, women just need to know where to look to help turn their entrepreneurial spirits into another successful woman owned business.

Get the Wheels Turning

If you’re not sure where to start, begin by asking yourself what your business goals are. You’ll need a plan. Write out a strategic plan about what you are looking to achieve, how you plan on accomplishing these achievements and when you would like to have these goals tackled by. Putting your plan to paper brings you one step closer to actualizing your ideas about your business. Once you know what you want, you can start working to get it.

The .org’s and .gov’s of Starting a Woman Owned Business

There’s a lot to learn as a new business owner, especially a female business owner. From setting up your business to knowing where to look for start up funding; the process can be overwhelming. So make sure to educate yourself about how to set up your business, pay taxes, manage your accounting, set up insurance, how to file as a woman owned company, etc. For help getting more information on these types of rules and regulations, consult the .orgs and .govs of all things small business. In other words, check out all of the information that the Federal, state and local governments have to offer women entrepreneurs or business owners on the web. Also start to glean not-for-profit websites (the .org’s) for free information and help on topics like becoming a woman owned business, where to obtain the most reliable, low-cost loans or even how to apply for grants.

Take Advantage of the Fact that there’s an App for Everything these Days

Next, you’ll need to start thinking about the marketing mix, fiscal planning, operations management and the nitty-gritty that it will take to run your business day in and day out. Will you work from home or lease a space? Will you sell products online or offer your services in person? Will you need a staff? Have you thought about competing businesses and how to you’ll stand out among them? Again, this is a hefty load of things to think about and make decisions regarding.

The good news is that there’s an App for just about everything these days. So, if you’re one of the few who doesn’t have a smart phone, invest in one immediately and start downloading your way to a more organized and efficient world of digital interconnectedness.

Expand Your Social Network

Knowing where to look for resources about business is just as important as knowing what to do when starting your own venture, if not, even more important. Thankfully there are a ton of resources on the web for women entrepreneurs who need help, information, education or advice about starting their businesses.

With women in business on the rise, many women-owned or women-centered small business or entrepreneurial organizations have developed over the years.
