Learn How to Prolong the Life of Your Laptop

Many laptop users do not realise just how easy it is to severely damage a laptop by careless handling. This article outlines how easy it is to break a netbook by careless use.

Ifyoudrop your netbook or distort the screen it can result in a damaged screen. The laptop may still be partially usable if the damage is minor, however the picture quality will probably be ruined. If the screen is more severely damaged then a crack or cracks might be seen with what looks like ink leaking from the cracks. The laptop might be unusable because the display is not going to be complete. If there\\\'s a dim display then it is likely that the screen lamp has failed, again rendering the netbook unusable. Always be very careful to handle the notebook with care as high g forces or distortion in the lid during opening can render the display useless.

The disk drive can easily be damaged if the netbook is banged or subject to g forces whilst it\\\'s turned on. If minor bad blocks or hard drive errors are created this may cause occasional Windows crashes, but sever or many hard drive errors will usually prevent Windows or applications from launching. When the laptop is turned off the hard disk parks its heads, safeguarding against minor g forces, so a severe g force or drop would be necessary to damage the hard disk drive when the netbook is turned off. Try to avoid moving your notebook when it\\\'s running as it is too easy to break the disk drive by banging or clonking it.

If fluid is spilt over the keyboard one or more of the keys will usually stop working; it\\\'s not usually possible to remove the fluid so a brand new keyboard will usually be required. Generally, if more fluid is spilt on the keyboard it\\\'ll enter the netbook and damage the motherboard and the keyboard. In many cases the motherboard will require replacing, however, this may cost as much as the notebook is worth especially if there\\\'s other damage. It depends on just how much fluid enters the netbook, but not much is required before other netbook parts become damaged. Keep drinks away from your notebook!

Pulling the cable from the power pack or tripping over it will often cause the internal power socket to fail. Treat this connector with care because it is expensive to repair or replace.

If you drop your notebook, even when turned off may lead to damage to the case, DVD drive, screen, hard disk etc.

Shutting down the netbook properly is very important. Always use the shut down feature of Windows to shut down the laptop. Do not use the sleep or hibernate function since it does not always completely shut down the netbook leaving the disk drive susceptible to movement damage. It always takes longer to start the netbook from a full shutdown but has the extra benefit of clearing the RAM such that numerous programs will operate quicker. Just closing the netbook lid shouldn\\\'t be used as a method of shutting down the notebook since the setting might be set to just sleep or hibernate when this is done.

Holding down the power button, removing the battery or disconnecting the power supply must not be used to force the netbook to turn off. Only as a last resort should a forced netbook shutdown be applied as you could damage the hard disk drive by creating errors if this is done.

Unless you treat your netbook with care it is very likely to fail resulting in an expensive notebook repair.

laptop vs. Desktop laptop vs. Desktop - I'm not a heavy gamer or graphics person so a Laptop is ideal for me for all the obvious reasons (portability, wireless, work on the go, etc etc) Major downside is the battery power and the cost to replace it - half as much as the cost of the laptop on my current IBM.
Re: Charge what you're worth Re: Charge what you're worth - [quote="Tami Szabo":292ze3jd]People will pay you what you ask. Very few will ever up the price. You are the one who decided what you are worth. The key is that we believe our services are worth the price we are asking.[/quote:292ze3jd] Hi Tami, You're absolutely right. In "Think and Grow Rich", Jessie B. Rittenhouse says "For Life is a just employer, He gives you what you ask, But once you have set the wages, Why, you must bear the task. I worked for a menial's hire Only to learn, dismayed , That any wage I had asked of Life, Life would have willingly paid" (Napoleon Hill 35). I think the same can be said when setting prices on eBay or Craigslist, especially when people are trying to haggle you.
Re: Who are the key players in your life? Re: Who are the key players in your life? - I'd have to say my family, who supported me when I first started out in business for myself... especially my sister, who bought me my Laptop! A supportive family can make anyone a success. A non-supportive family - would make it very tough, I would think. All the more reason to only allow positive-thinking people in to your life and ditch anyone who brings you down with nagging or slighting jokes, et al!
