How to implement a successful SaaS Model

In simple words, SaaS can also be regarded as a subscription based service for an application delivered over an internet. There are lots of organizations that provide SaaS to the global market, but to implement SaaS model successfully there are many points that need to be followed.

• There is large amount of investment required to setup a SaaS Model as it can give big returns after its successful implementation.

• At the time of implementation, always keep in mind that target market should be big. If target market is not large enough you will not get positive return so always target a service that will be going to attract at least second and third tier market.

• To be successful in the market you need to come with strategic plan and a road map so that you can modify and develop services with time.

• Keep your market plan flexible and responsive to feedbacks made by market forces and users.

• It’s not advisable to invest all your capital before launch as there will be many services that will require changes and development with time. So this is important to save 40% of the investment capital and 60% of development efforts before the launch so that it can be used in future.

In a custom application development process, SaaS technical architecture should be designed in a way that it can support changes and is expected to run over long term. To do this, you need to have a multi-tenant database structure. With the increase of number of clients in future there will also be increase in the services that are being provided to clients. In SaaS you are not just going to provide an application but will be providing presentation layer to the customers. We need to understand the technical strategies, by which we can scale our services, bring and merge new services, extend provided services outside the application and make changes in the services without any big hassle, so that you can continue to make profit.

The first release of the SaaS, one of the types of cloud computing platforms, shouldn’t be the final release; the development process should go on with changing market. There are big names such as Google, SaleForce, Amazon and Fedex were providing SaaS, so to compete in the global market you need to keep evolving your services. Always keep an eye on the amount of time and operations carried out on the applications provided to clients so you can come to know about their needs. After the successful automation of the SaaS application and its working, you should also automate the pricing, settlement, on-boarding, user management and other operational aspects related to it. The major profit of SaaS comes from volumes and to handle those volumes manual operations can’t be implemented. To handle the changes and development in SaaS from time to time ask your technical team to use agile methodologies.

Re: Franchise 'due diligence' checklist Re: Franchise 'due diligence' checklist - One of the things I focus on is this: Does the Franchise fit the Business Model you are interested in? Meaning, are you going to be doing what you want to do on a daily? For example, if you are a restaurant manager now and you hate your job because of the hours, then don't buy most food franchises. You have experience of course, so it is more comfortable, but you will basically be doing very similar duties and hours as you were before. I always go through a series of questions, answers, more questions, more answers etc... to help my clients figure out what Business Model they are most interested in, I do this before even discussing a single name with them, they tell me what the business model is and then I match them up to that type of business, explain the entire business model as best I can and then and only then do we discuss the name of the company. Too many times people come to me wanting to own "abc" name brand franchise, when they don't even understand what type of business it really is and what they will be doing every day.
Partnering for the wrong reasons Partnering for the wrong reasons - Well I guess the 2 biggest fears/mistakes are: 1.) Partnering with someone just because you trust them (i.e. a close family member or friend) and more importantly, need his/her money to implement YOUR unique idea. 2.) Giving away too much (in terms of company shares) too soon. For instance, let's say you gave away 50% of your company shares to a friend who was mainly just an investor who paid for more than 70% of the initial startup costs. You do more than 70% of the work, and the company becomes successful and you're able to repay all of your debts. Then going forward, you're stuck doing the majority of the work still, while you investor friend has been repaid in full and sits on his/her laurels because of the initial written agreement didn't require him/her to help out as much. What would you do then?
