Do Auto Attendants Fully Replace The Live Operator?

It's safe to say that most everybody has come across the familiar, robotic and monotone voice of an auto attendant. They are an advanced extension of a business' phone messaging system to help guide callers to the appropriate office or employee.

Yet, it's also safe to say that everyone is familiar with human operators as well. Heck, they werethe beginning-and-end to connecting callers in day's past. But, as time went by, phone technology obviously changed for the better and the advent of call displacement and voicemail soon followed and grew into what it is now.
For some businesses, human operators still receive and transfer incoming calls from the start, and if it works for the time being, then they stick with it. But, soon enough, call volume will start to build up and the annoyance of busy signals will sometimes become too much weight for the receptionists to bear. Calls may either get transfered to wrong departments, completely cut off or held for a considerable amount of time. But with advancements made with VoIP systems, and moreover their auto attendants, businesses can start to form a more professional tone to their clientele and exert a more uniformed impression at the same time. Aside from offering multiple open lines to a business, auto attendant services can render the human operator obsolete in most areas.
First off, auto attendants can field an immeasurable amount of calls at the same time, while also being able to swiftly and efficiently route each caller to their proper department or particular person via that familiar prompt: "press 1 for accounting, press 2 for Jake, etc.". While competent human operators can do their best to receive and transfer multiple calls, there's no plan for a sudden flood of callers all at once.
Secondly, auto attendant systems come with advanced features such as call transfers to an employee's voicemail (both in office or directly to the cell phone), accompanying background music to please customers should they be on hold, client messages delivered straight to the business' main email and so forth. Simply put, the auto attendant is what many people have come to expect with communication efficiency.
Last but not least, the auto attendant can instill an even more professional tone for consumers and give the impression that all operations from within are running at a multitasking, smooth pace. Think of it as more of a slickly designed virtual lobby for your clients to wait in. Since most every business from smallest to largest has put a considerable amount of time and care into their lobby, it's a first impression that aims to strike gold in the eyes and ears of potential clients.
That's not to say that human operators aren't effective. They are. It's just, when talking about the pace at which a business should be able to handle absolutely every single call, be it an inquiry, existing or potential client, it's tough to go against today's phone messaging systems in that respect.

How Quick is That How Quick is That - Just to let you know that as I'm not as sharp as I might be in the ftp sort of world, I had a problem today with uploading a new site. Hostgator 'Live Chat' fixed this for me in two minutes flat and didn't make me feel I was an idiot at all (at least anymore than I felt myself). As I'm in the UK and ringing early am for me here, I thought that 'Live Chat' might have been EST, so off for me, but no, they were there! BTW I'd spelt my nameservers slightly wrong - duh! Now that's what I call service. Regards.
Re: Review My: e-product sales letter Re: Review My: e-product sales letter - Hi Evan, It looks great! I'd but it beneath the first Paypal button and let the PS do the work beneath the bottom Paypal button. A couple of points on the wording: 1. The headline "This-better-work..." seems to start out as if the customer is speaking and end up as if you are speaking. Do you see what I mean? 2. Replace "it" with "them" (ebook and bonuses). Cheers! David H

Re: Email Etiquette Re: Email Etiquette - [quote="jvprosperity":24jznj58] The P.S. suggestion is good but it depends on the type of communication (e.g. Autoresponder series verses one off emails to Clients or Prospects)[/quote:24jznj58] Andy, You are right. I was mainly referring to Auto Responder emails. To end a normal email, I attach signatures. Takuya
