Traditionally, transferring the collected surveyed data was always a time consuming and a costly task. With Episurveyor being an open source tool, the task of transferring data back to a desktop or web server is easy and cost effective. The user requires no expensive consultants, software subscriptions or any of those complicated long-term contracts. Before Epicentre survey data management required skilled person to carry out the survey and store the data. However, this solution allows creation of surveys using the desktop application and seamlessly publishing them to the handheld devices. Data can be collected by field agents on their PDA's in the offline mode and can be synced to desktop application at convenience. The solution helps in eliminating the paper chain and making the entire process fast, efficient and free of error. These features of Episurveyor had made it popular even in these competitive times.

Episurveyor was developed to give its users that open source software which will allow them to easily create a generic data entry form, collect data on Palm, Windows mobile & J2ME device and then transfer the data back to a desktop or upload to web server for analysis. Solution should be generic so that surveys can be designed for wide range of organization like U.N. organizations, Hospitals etc.

The developers of Episurveyor also added several enhancements in the features of the tool. The bugs were resolved out to give a clean application for its users. The developers went on to release upgraded versions of Episurveyor which was a enhanced tool in the later releases. The technologies used in perfecting the application were Java 1.4 or higher, JSP, Superwaba & MySQL for providing the world class solution. A web edition of Episurveyor was made available that is similar to a desktop edition and the Windows mobile edition that parallel to the Palm version. Some of the enhanced features that was upgraded to the application to reach to a world class standard is the installation of Episurveyor to PDA from desktop. The Personal Digital Assistants as we know allows the users to import and export data, store information. The survey data can thus be handled seamlessly with this feature of the Episurveyor.

The survey activities mainly consist of many questions and this is one of the many critical points for a successful survey and this solution features a solution that introduces new types of questions for an accurate survey. The enhanced version of the application is has an improved publish mechanism and popup keyboards on device, allowing user to save survey specifications etc.

The Episurveyor is appropriate a solution for creating generic surveys for wide range of industries from desktop or web application. Surveys thus created can be published to Palm & Windows mobile devices and can be downloaded on J2ME devices. Survey data can be collected on different devices and transferred to desktop or can be uploaded on the web server. Data collected can be analyzed and exported to various formats like html, mdb. It can be archived also from desktop/laptop.

Re: The Mobile Marketing - I just read an interesting statistic the other day. According to IBM's fourth annual Cyber Monday Benchmark for 2011, there was an increase in the use of mobile devices for Cyber Monday shopping purposes. 10.8% of people used a mobile device to visit the websites of retailer's whom they were interested in buying from. That statistic is up 3.9% from 2010's Cyber Monday. Actual sales from a mobile device increased from 2.3% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2011. I definitely think this trend is going to continue to grow, and businesses can find advantages from doing things for the mobile world. Whether it's mobile websites, mobile apps, text message marketing, whatever it may be, this stuff is, as GT Bulmer said, [quote:19cah8ra]a forward moving trend.[/quote:19cah8ra]
Mobile Internet Viewing - A few years ago (2001 - 2002) there was a lot of talk about creating websites for mobile phones using technology called WAP which I considered to learn but never got around to it. I don't believe you should even consider creating an optimised website for mobile viewing at the moment unless you are offering ring tone downloads or something for use directly on a mobile phone. Another exception is if your target market uses mobile internet but again this would only be for ringtone, theme downloads etc because I know most people would not use their mobile phone for book reviews or stories for example.
Re: The Mobile Marketing - Hi GT, I am only really joining this post out of genuine interest in the subject with nothing much to offer. I am in that group of people who use a mobile simply for phone calls and text messages. I can get on the internet with it but choose not to because I am not comfortable with it as it is very basic and I prefer to wait until I get home. My daytime work involves running training courses which I am enhancing and developing and will be launching a new website in the new year to market my services. For this reason I am expecting (or hoping) that I will be getting interest during the day which will require a quicker response with a need to answer emails straight away or upload course information/prices etc. For that reason I will have to drag myself kicking and screaming into the 21st century and will need I suppose some sort of smart phone, hands free car mobile and one of these dreaded headset/earpiece devices as well as the obvious learning curve difficulties with the new kit. I am still developing my Internet Marketing work so I don’t really want to do all of this but to stand still is to fall back today and whilst most of my present training work has come from personal recommendations, I need to reach a bigger audience if I am to develop the business. I will be interested to see if anyone joins this post who can recommend any particular smart phone or other devices that are not too ‘techy’ but are user friendly and reliable. regards, Mal.
Storage online - Oh Well the reason I believe the cd business has gone down firstly is coz of "DVD" other then that Yes Pen drives and mobile hard drives... Soon you might find everything stored online simple example google excel sheets, you may not even need storage devices in future
