The Demanding Nature of Online Customers and Its Impact on Website Design

According to businessknowhow.com, no matter how big or small your organization is - you're always going to run into the very demanding customer who wants to make you pull your hair. Why complain if you join online commerce in the first place? There are certain types of customers who are not seen online. In the brick-and-mortar business realm, there are customers who are fiercely loyal to the brand. They buy certain brands because it is their alleged national duty to do so. They patronize certain companies because they know the president or that they know some employees even if some companies can provide better goods and services. There is also what you call the "irrational customer". He is the one who does not ask why the food smells bad because he thinks that it is his national or patriotic obligation to eat at a restaurant getting its supplies from local farmers. He is the one who despises goods made from other countries and purchases goods made in his country even though the goods made from other countries are much better and much cheaper. The coming of the internet is seen by many as the revival of the choosy and demanding customer. The demanding customer does not simply take things as they are. He investigates and asks questions - what is the mode of payment, what are the charges, the location of the store, the cost of transportation, the existence of similar products etc. Now, let's take a look at the impact of the demanding customer on the internet as a whole.

First, the demanding customers would improve the way we do business online. In the brick-and-mortar world, such a type of customer is shunned for being greedy and selfish. Traditional market observers believe that the business can only be corrected by the state and civic-groups. The product correction, however, in the online business realm comes from the individual customers. The demanding customer will point out the errors and he will even suggest ways how the online businessman can correct the problem. The mere existence of demanding customer should be welcomed by the online businessmen because such customers could very well improve the online business conduct.

Second, online commerce will be more competitive as a direct result of the existence of the demanding customers. The customers will point out the problems with certain internet settings like money transactions and flaws in the instant messaging systems. The problems will then be corrected because the market (including the demanding customers) would point out the problems.

Third, the internet market will become more personal (marketingprofs.com). Despite the studies pinpointing to the importance of culture and gender on understanding markets, the presence of the demanding customers will transform the "group-based study" to individual level ones. In fact, many free websites have installed instant messaging systems and 24/7 customer service centers to makes sure that individual needs are addressed.

As mentioned in the first paragraph, the demanding customer will continue to grow in number. They represent the new customers of the internet generation. Passivity and patronage are things of the past. Each website businessman must be able to devise a system to determine the demand of the customer and address whatever problem immediately.
