It was launched with a lot of new and exciting features allowing users to get full control of their computers. But still somewhere this Windows 7 creates some silly problems for the users. One of these simple but silly issues is not able to change the Desktop Wallpaper in Windows 7 PC. In this write up, we will discuss few technical steps to resolve this problem.

Contact Microsoft Windows 7 Support if you are not so much technical or looking for any expert assistance to resolve your Windows 7 issues.

Exact Issue

Following will be the scenarios when you face the desktop wallpaper issue in Windows 7:

1. The checkboxes and buttons don’t work expectedly in the ‘Change Desktop background’ section.

2. Some users receive following error messages while trying to set a picture as Desktop background.

This image can't be set as wallpaper. An internal error occurred.

3. Few will see a black background even after applying the wallpaper.

4. Sometimes the slideshow feature for desktop wallpapers will not work.

Note

Windows 7 Starter and Windows 7 Home Basic editions don’t allow changing the desktop wallpapers. You should upgrade your Windows 7 version for this feature. Perform below methods sequentially in order to resolve your problem.

Method 1

Sometimes the computers have some Desktop Manager utilities, which often disable the changing of desktop wallpapers. Perform below steps,

1. Go to the Control Panel -> Programs to check the list of installed programs.

2. Please check for any Desktop Manager utility like Samsung Display Manager, Webshots etc.

3. Uninstall such program.

Disclaimer: you will not be able to use the uninstalled program any more. If you want to use it in future, then you have to arrange its installation file before going to uninstall it. Don’t uninstall the program if you don’t have its backup.

Now, try to change the wallpaper now and check whether slideshow is working or not. Proceed to next method if the problem still exists.

Method 2

By default, the Power Settings are configured to stop the slideshow in some conditions. Follow below steps to change this setting.

1. Type ‘Power Options’ in the search box in Start Menu. Click on it to open.

NOTE: In case of laptops, you can also click the battery icon in the system tray to open Power Options.

2. You have to click ‘Change plan Settings’ on the ‘Select a Power plan’ page.

3. Click ‘Advanced Power Settings’ and then expand ‘Desktop Background Settings’.

4. Expand ‘Slideshow’ and select ‘Setting’ to ‘Available’.

5. You can change this setting for all the Power Plans like Balanced, Plugged In, etc.

Apply a new wallpaper to check the problem. Proceed with below method, if required.

Method 3

‘Ease of Access’ in Windows 7 is a replacement to the ‘Accessibility Options’ in the earlier Windows versions. It has a setting to disable the Wallpaper. Perform below steps to rectify its settings,

1. Go to the Start -> Control Panel, click ‘Ease of Access’ to open it.

2. Look for a section titled ‘Explore all Settings’, and click it.

3. Click ‘Make the computer easier to see’ and uncheck the box titled ‘Remove background images’.

4. You have to click the OK button twice to close Ease of Access center.

Try to change the wallpaper and if not working, then contact Microsoft Windows 7 Support.

Re: What are your February Goals? Re: What are your February Goals? - Hi Evan, Thanks for the feedback. I did wonder about those arrows, and the lack of a headline. I should probably add a headline and a set of arrows pointing to the Windows download button, then have the Mac option placed below it without arrows. Actually, if you had gone the "Mac" route on Windows you would have downloaded a pdf file, so no worries. Mac users, however, can't open exe files (unless they use OSX etc and have a Windows partition on their hard-drive). I'm still experimenting with download methods - the boomerang method / standard squeeze page download / splash page direct download without needing to join my list...
Bye Bye Vista Bye Bye Vista - I've been cleaning house...Finally rid myself of this atrocious operating system called Windows Vista. Eeeegads! It's good to have a nice clean computer again - all reformatted and shiny new! Windows XP has been reinstalled and Vista is in the trash can. Vista is a bomb... plain and simple. ..
Re: A picture (video) is worth a thousand words.... Re: A picture (video) is worth a thousand words.... - Phil, I switched to Mac leopard last year. I love it. It can also handle Windows on a separate hard-drive, so you get the best of both worlds. And if you are keen on doing more with video technology MAC is DEFINITELY the way to go. However, a note of caution - I have no intention of "upgrading" to Snow Leopard, which sounds bad. Also, on the Windows side, I chose XP rather than Vista.
I Don't See Any Navigation Either I Don't See Any Navigation Either - Barbara, Sorry to report, I checked out the site and saw a gray bar with a small blue line in the center (vertical), but no buttons, nothing. I have Windows XP Pro, using FireFox 2.0.0.6. I hope this helps you debug the problem, good luck.
