Smart Women Find Their

Yesterday, when I picked my daughter Jenna up from tennis camp, she rushed over and handed me her uneaten snack and her nearly full water bottle, with a big smile on her face. I was surprised she hadn't eaten her snack (after all, Goldfish is her favorite) and I couldn't imagine her not drinking a gallon of water on this hot summer day! When I asked her about it, she exclaimed, "Mommy, I was having so much fun playing tennis I forgot to eat or drink!" Jenna was doing something that energized her. She found an activity that caused her to forget about everything. She was in her "flow." This got me thinking about how Smart Women find their "flow" and live energetic, passionate lives. When I was studying to become a Professional Certified Coach, I was required to read lots of books that were essential to my growth as a coach. I found one book in particular, "Finding Flow" by Mihaly Csikszenthihalyi ("chick-Sent-me-high") to be quite thought-provoking. Csikszenthihalyi believes that many people walk through their lives without ever becoming aware of what energizes them or where they find themselves in the "flow." Athletes sometimes refer to this as being "in the zone." "Flow" is the place where you lose yourself and all track of time. You know when you are in the "flow" when you finish a task or project and you feel more energized than when you began. Have you ever done something and forgotten to look at the clock or stopped to take a break for lunch or even go to the bathroom? I personally find my "flow" in my work with women, watching my children play sports and listening to solo piano.

How about you? Have you found your "flow"? And if you have, are you practicing it on a regular basis? In my work with women, I find there are some who know where their "flow" is, and some who have lost touch due to their demanding lives and lack of time for self-care. Even though some women know where their "flow" is, they typically aren't making the time to practice it as often as they should. One of the ways I support women is to help them find ways to have more "flow" in their lives.

In my Success Circles, I offer some exercises to help women discover their "flow". Not sure yet what yours might be? Here are a few questions that will support you to finding the "flow" in your life:

1. Where do you lose yourself? What activity are you doing when you lose track of time, forget to eat, etc.?

2. Describe a time in your life when you felt passionate about being alive, inspired, challenged
.

3. If you had a day off, and could spend it any way you wanted, what would you do?

Finding "flow" is a lot more essential in life than you might think. It's the difference between living an energetic, passionate, purposeful life that holds meaning, or living one that feels full of boredom, humdrum, and just going through the motions. I invite you to find a quiet, peaceful place and ponder these questions. Once you have the answers, make the necessary changes to allow more time for you to be in the "flow" of your life.

"The quality of life does not depend on happiness alone, but also on what one does to be happy." Mihaly Csikszenthihalyi

Anything is possible. Everything is waiting for you.

Re: History of Women in Business in the United States Re: History of Women in Business in the United States - Yes. Women have increasingly made positive economic contributions to society and their position is being recognized more and more as seen on the Forbes List of Executive Women. In general, women can be a bit more practical in their approach as entrepreneurs too.
A ton of Great Women A ton of Great Women - You might want to profile Teresa Cascioli of LakePort Brewery. She has an amazing story! Women Entrepreneurs On The Rise Women Entrepreneurs On The Rise - Are you a women who owns her own business? I believe that empowered, successful women are one of the keys to causing our world to change to a more peaceful and community oriented society. Did you know that women are now contributing to nearly half of all new small businesses?. Maybe through your business you want to make a difference and of course you also want to have prosperity. According to the Woman's Financial Network, women start businesses at two times the rate of men. While women are starting more businesses than men, they often find it harder to get things going and to sustain them over the long term. What can women do to be more sustainable in the long haul? Business is all about relationships. You have probably noticed that women are more relationship oriented and having that natural bent serves well in the business world. Women tend to be better listeners and develop stronger relationships with customers, clients, and vendors. Developing supportive relationships is also what sustains women. One women I have worked with shares, " Building my business has been about creating a team and investing energy into teach person, knowing that I cannot do all this alone. Men like to be the alpha male and do it themselves. But I need and want to be part of a community." Another women shares. "Mentoring has been crucial for me. I have enjoyed having a female mentor that shows that it is possible for me as a woman to make it." Women need a community and to be with other women entrepreneurs. Fulfillment comes from sharing business, personal, financial and spiritual fulfillment through connections with other like-minded women. Women's support comes from being in a circle, talking, and sharing. In the earliest women's enterprises, this is how it has worked, whether it was quilting bees or canning vegetables in the kitchen. Women have always needed to connect with one another and talk. Women business owners benefit from sharing with each other in many ways including, • Reducing work stress • Confidence building • Self- esteem growth • Laughter • Sharing challenging situations • Life-work balance • Learning from each other Does all this sound good? Here are three suggestions. 1. Find a couple other women who own businesses in your area and set up a regular meeting at a cafe. It is a nice break from work and also can offer support and sharing of resources. 2. Join a women's networking group. Not only will you meet other women but you might benefit from the monthly presentations. 3. Join a facilitated women in business group. This has the benefit of being more focused and committed. Whatever your business make sure you are one of those who succeed in the long run. Find support, find other women to talk to, and once you are successful be a mentor to a new business woman. Being able to give back is the icing on the cake.
Re: Are entrepreneur women more organized than men? Re: Are entrepreneur women more organized than men? - Women are generally more organised than men. They have good instincts more than men. Women are generally aggressive when it come to business. You don't want to mess up with them.
Re: Are entrepreneur women more organized than men? Re: Are entrepreneur women more organized than men? - The issue of women being more organized than men is true, start from you home, just see how messy the boys are. Women are also very cautious, unlike men who take any risk, a woman will analyze the risk first. Women are also go getter when it comes to business, once they make their mind, then they go for it.
