3 Things Michael Vick Can Teach You About Online Marketing

If you're the kind of person who follows the NFL, then you probably already know that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick recently signed the second hundred million dollar contract of his career. While those kinds of numbers might seem to be news in and of themselves, they are especially interesting because Vick isn't just coming off a monster year, but was in a federal prison not very long ago.

The news of Vick's new deal with the Eagles has kept sports writers busy lately, but from an online marketing perspective, there are also a few interesting lessons to consider. Here are three things Michael Vick's new contract can teach you about building your business over the Internet:

Versatility is important. Whether you love him or hate him, any football fan would have to agree that his ability to both run and pass effectively makes things interesting, both for his team and the opposition. Could your company follow the same example? The more you can do for your customers, the more they'll want your products and services. In this day and age, quality and pricing are important, but having a versatile set of solutions from a single company is an underrated asset.

Some customers will never forgive a big mistake. When Vick left federal prison, there were animal rights groups picketing everywhere he went. Guess what? They still are, and probably always will. The lesson for your company and your website is this: It's as difficult to get past a big, public mistake as it is to build a new legacy. Marketing your company over the Internet is as much about avoiding the major errors as it is getting the details right.

Taking chances pays off sometimes. The Philadelphia Eagles called Michael Vick at a time when nobody else wanted anything to do with him. While you might not want convicted felons working on your team, there is something to be said for bucking the popular trend once in a while and having the nerve to strike out on your own. If you spot an opportunity in your industry that no one else sees, do your homework and then decide whether or not it makes sense to go for it.If you're the kind of person who follows the NFL, then you probably already know that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick recently signed the second hundred million dollar contract of his career. In the past, there's been some interest voiced about adding a "Social Media Marketing", "Online Marketing", "Internet Marketing" or "Online Promotion" category. I'll implement [u:1g2tv6tf]ONE[/u:1g2tv6tf] of those new categories, but can someone first tell me what the difference would be between the existing "Marketing" section and one of those new options mentioned above? Thanks

Moreover, it would probably be called "Online Marketing" instead of Social Media Marketing".[/quote:p78047w2] Okay - I have a request -- can the title be changed to "Online Marketing"? The reason I'm asking is because people may not know what social media marketing is , while that would make me vote for it to learn more, but not every thinks like that. Also, online marketing could capture more attention when people spot in on the list. Shri

Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - [quote:31qpen1j]This is just my opinion, but I consider the prospective categories, Online Marketing, Internet Marketing and Online Promotion, as being pretty much one and the same - just different words that different people use.[/quote:31qpen1j] I completely agree! Those are all just "internet marketing" as far as I am concerned. And I normally would have voted for internet marketing, however I chose social media marketing simply because there are more than enough IM forums out there already.
