How To Build Residual and Recurring Traffic To Your Website

It has been said that residual income is the American dream--let's face it though, the American's do not have a patent on that particular dream.

Just a developing residual income is the basis for most Internet fortunes, maintaining a successful
business website is all about keeping your visitors coming back. New attractions show up every day on the Internet making competition for visitors darned tough. Good promotion techniques will get almost any website their proverbial 15 minutes of fame, but unless you offer your guests something worthwhile to return to, chances are they will not bother.

To attract and then maintain their attention, you will need content on your website that not only interests your chosen audience, but also changes regularly.

Articles

Interesting, topically relevant, proprietary and/or unique articles give your visitor something to read that they cannot get anywhere else. No one knows your business better than you, so write them yourself or hire an expert, but do not waste time and effort posting duplicate or generic articles that can be found a dozen other places online.

You can take generic, topically relevant Private Label Rights(PLR) articles and completely rewrite them.

If you product is not unique, you can post information about your products directly from the package, or makers website. However, if you are going to do this, add other topically relevant unique content that is exclusive to your website.

Blog

Believe It or not, people are interested in what you have to say! A blog will not only allow you to keep your visitors updated on your business, but it also gives you a great opportunity to add those much needed keywords to your website. In addition, it allows you to put a human face and personality to your business, almost the same as if you were facing a customer across the counter or your desk in a brick and mortar location. People like doing business with people they like.

Contests

Everyone wants to win stuff! Offering contests that are updated or otherwise change frequently gives your visitors a reason to visit regularly. When they enter the contest have them subscribe to your newsletter at the same time, so you can notify them whenever your contest is updated or changed, or if they win, or have a second chance to win. Every time you change or update your contest also make sure that you have something new or updated to offer them in the way or product enhancements, or special offers.

The key to successfully using contests to promote your website is to change the contest frequently,
whether it be weekly, monthly, or semi-annually. The more often you change your contest the more often people will revisit your website and the more often you will have the opportunity to present your product or service to them.

Discounts and Coupons and Bonuses

You can also offer discounts, coupons and bonuses for your previous customers and or visitors to entice them to return to your website.

Bonuses

Bonuses can be offered, via your mailing list anytime after purchase, as a special thank you for being a customer, or even just for being a list member.

Coupons

You can use coupons a number of ways.

* A buy one, get one free special offer.
* Free or discounted shipping

You may want to provide a printable coupon on your website and accept it at your brick and mortar
location.

Discounts

If you have a shopping cart discounts are easy to administer, provided you have a shopping cart that has them built in. Typically discounts are given by code. A code word such as “Eureka” allows customers with the code word to receive a pre-programmed discount.

Forums*

Forums provide something that everyone craves, a place to post their views, and read the views of others. If a forum is provided on your site, the visitor will have a reason to visit your website frequently, whether it be to ask a question when help is needed or to keep up on a conversation.

Freebies

Branded Ebooks and Software that contains a clickable link to your webiste are one of the best
investments you can make. Once the product is developed it costs you nothing additional, other than a bit of bandwidth, to give the same Freebie away 10,000 time or more. Plus if it is something like software, or a game or puzzle or an Ebook that people will reuse or refer to regularly your name and quick access to your website is there every time they use your gift. If you make it viral by giving them permission to give it away as well, then the people they give it too will also have your free advertising and free clickable link in hand as well.

Newsletter

Trying to operate a website without releasing a regular newsletter is like opening a sand store in the middle of the desert! Your newsletter is the key to keeping your visitors coming back time and time again.

You will want to include part of a unique article or tip in your newsletter, and then a link to the rest. This will force your viewers to visit your site to get the remainder of the story.

Re: Alexa Ranking Goals Re: Alexa Ranking Goals - LOL, I spoke too soon. Within a few hours of my post, Alexa updated the Traffic Rank on the toolbar. Note however that the 3 month Traffic Rank on Alexa.com has still not been updated...
Re: what position to request? Re: what position to request? - Hi Michael, Great suggestion from David, or you could try something around a design consultancy, How about Website Design Consultant, Design and Development Manager, Website Support and Development Manager or maybe Internet Business Development Consultant. Ultimately whatever you are comfortable with and good luck for the future, Mal.
Re: What are your success criteria? Re: What are your success criteria? - 1) Ability to provide for not only my family but their children and their children's children. I would setup education scholarships and also business venture grants to help the young kids in my family. 2) Residual income that is not dependent on my continual efforts 3) Quality time to spend growing the business as well as time to spend with family 4) Ability to create and fund an organization that empowers others to help those in need. The whole goal is when I leave everything should be able to sustain itself and continue without my help. That to me is success.
Re: Great start, but no finish Re: Great start, but no finish - My advise is FOCUS on your business. Focusing is the main factor to succeed on business. If you have a great idea, then follow it only, don't look anywhere else. It is especially essential in an online business. Because there are a lot of mind blowing sales letters promising millions dolllars or overnight success, people find it difficult to concentrate on one business and they lose their energy. Concept is simple. 1- Have a good idea; 2- Build your business on it; 3- Monetize your business; 4- Promote it; 5- Build list of responsive customers; 6- Maintain You Business. Focusing and not fearing from competition (instead you can learn from competitiors) are main tips of billionaires ,BTW. Orxan
Re: What are your success criteria? Re: What are your success criteria? - [quote="DwayneGarrett":1igrdgib]Out of curiousity, what has to be present for you to know that your business is a success? The top three things for me are: 1. Maintaining a 6 figure income year in and year out. 2. Creating and promoting my own products. 3. Income not solely dependent upon my personal effort. How about yours?[/quote:1igrdgib] I would have to say mine were: 1. Monthly Residual Income that exceeds all expenses by 110% 2. Free time to create and promote my own products (relies on #1) 3. 5% of all revenues generated by my team going to feed starving kids Now that is "feel good work".
