Where's the Beef in Your Sales Patty?

Guest post by: Kim Duke

Article Overview: Soooooo - what's on the menu with your business? Is it possible for a customer to custom design certain products or services that you sell? Can they create the perfect combination for what they need orrrrrr... do they have to buy a bunch of things they don't want in order to get what they DO want?

Where's the Beef in Your Sales Patty?

Want to know one of my guilty pleasures?
Once a month - me, my nieces and sister head out for a Harvey's burger - and not just any old burger by the way. (Yes - even the Sales Diva loves a burger every now and then!) It sounds totally cheesy but it reminds my sister and me of the "rink burgers" we had as kids!
My favorite?
The Angus burger with cheese. Lots of relish and 3 pickles. That's it.
My step-daughter recently moved here to go to college and she wanted to join us for the cheap eats.
As we were waiting in line - she said "OK - how does this work?" My 10 year old niece piped up, took a deep breath and said:
"They make it exactly the way you like it....right in front of you. We only like the Angus burger with cheese. Mom likes it with everything on it, Auntie only likes 3 pickles and relish, I have the same as Auntie except more mustard and my sister only eats chicken fingers with plum sauce. She likes to be different. She's a teenager."

My step-daughter looked at me and said "A custom built burger...cool!"
And I was listening to my niece and step-daughter talk about how to make the perfect burger combination, I thought...
"This is exactly what most people DON'T DO with their customers!"

Cable companies are definitely in the category of making you buy what you don't want. I don't know about you - but I only want to watch what interests me. And I'm willing to pay more for it. (So don't ask me to buy the wrestling channel along with HGTV!)

A Few Keen As Mustard Questions For You:
• What do you think your customers would PAY MORE FOR?
• What opportunities are right beneath your nose that you aren't paying attention to?
Think about it. You're so anxious to increase your sales revenues but you're not looking at (or asking) what customers really love, love, love.
My Diva Dare?
You need to think of your own perfect, custom-designed version of "Would you like fries with that?"
So there.
Love From Your Bossy Sales Diva,
Kim

Online Sales and Marketing vs Traditional Online Sales and Marketing vs Traditional - Hi Evan, I am noticing that many of the posts in the Sales/Marketing section deal with online marketing, SEM and and SEO and Affiliates. I was wondering if it might be a good idea to separate that section into two; 1) Online Sales and Marketing; 2) Traditional Sales and Marketing

taxes in canada taxes in canada - Well in Canada we only have a few provinces and the Sales tax is slightly different. Here in Ontario the Goods & Services tax has reduced to 5% from 7% in the last year due to the promises made by the government in place.
Re: Watch What you Read Re: Watch What you Read - I agree. i believe more video's should be like Jeffery Gitomers video's under his Sales rant. They are typically not more than 3 minutes. His model seems to be; 1. Main Message (or Point) 2. Example 3. Next steps to put it into Action take away the extra "blabber" and you've got viewers that will come back.
