7 Ways to market your business and attract potential customers without spending a fortune...

Marketing and generating new potential customers is critical for business success, without them how are you going to make more money and grow your business. There are a lot of ways to promote your business and attract potential customers but here are some of the best no cost/low cost ways of marketing your business both online and offline: 1. Publicity/Editorials - Press Releases

Believe it or not there is plenty of free publicity out there where the media can talk about your business in a positive light. It needs to be newsworthy; if not it will not get printed, so make it interesting for people to read not just a product/service plug. To potential customers this form of promotion carries more weight - it is very credible. Once you have a press release you can submit it to the relevant journalists.

2. Capture Devices - Free E-books and Special Reports

A capture device is something that draws potential customers to your business, whether by phone, mail, store or website. The idea is to give them something for FREE, like a free e-book so that you can obtain their contact details and then promote to them at a later date.

3. Article Writing

Writing high quality, informative articles is a great way of establishing yourself as an expert in your field and getting exposure for your business, all for free. The most useful information you give, the more trust you will build with your readers and the more potential customers you will obtain. The more articles you write the more exposure you will get. You can submit these to online article directories, blogs, and other people websites and to offline magazines, newspapers, journals etc.

4. Other Businesses Newsletters

This is a great way to promote your business to a new group of potential customers for FREE or at minimal cost. You can run a competition, give special offers or write an article, swap space in each other's newsletters. Make sure you include a good offer or call to action to get people to take action.

5. Referrals/Word of Mouth

A happy customer will promote your business by word of mouth to other people for little or no cost. A recommendation is a far more powerful thing than advertising and generally people who have been referred will turn into loyal customers. You can encourage referrals by offering a referral program to your customers.

6. Networking

There are plenty of places to network now-a-days, from online forums and social networking sites to attending networking events and collecting business cards. It is a good idea to combine both online and offline networking because ever though online networking will allow you to connect with more people in less time, offline networking will allow you to meet people face to face. Networking is all about building relationships and getting your name out there. Remember to follow up on the contacts you make otherwise you will just be wasting your time.

7. Strategic Alliances

This is where you build relationships with complementary businesses and help to promote each other. Make sure that both businesses and the customers benefit. You can identify some good partners by looking in similar places that you advertise. For example, an accountant/bookkeeper and a financial broker who targets small businesses is a good alliance or businesses that target children like a children's cloth shop, a children's books business, and a gift store for children would all work well together.

Always remember to collect as many people's details as you can for your database otherwise you will be wasting your time and money as this is a great way of being able to promote to them in the future at no cost.

As you can see you don't have to spend a fortune to market your business and attract potential customers to your business. All you need are proven marketing strategies that actually work.

Re: The Great Canadian Mentoring Challenge! Re: The Great Canadian Mentoring Challenge! - Hi Ryann, * I believe I have a great idea for a business start-up. I’ve been to two traditional banks and was turned down. Where can I go to secure funding and how much can I expect to access? -Have you looked into getting funding from a venture capitalist?[/color:qtt6yzl6] * Everybody talks about E-Business and what it can do for your company, but what are the secrets to success, that is, what and how can the Internet work for me (without costing a fortune)? -What kind of E-Business are you looking to start? The internet can work for you without costing a fortune once you learn how to build your own website and implement SEO strategies yourself.[/color:qtt6yzl6] * How do you go about finding if there’s a truly a want and need for your product or service without spending money to hire a Market research firm? -Hit the streets and do the market research yourself. Offer incentives for people to do your survey or answer your questions. Besides, why pay someone a fortune for something you can do just as well yourself? One of the best pieces of advice I ever heard was: Go work/intern for a small business owner who is doing what you want to do (or at least is in a related field) to: a) see if it's truly something you want to pursue b) learn the in's and out's of the business b) and most importantly, to see first hand what kind of revenue and opportunities can be made in that industry. Googling, asking questions, etc... will only take you so far. You need to take a risk free look into the field you're looking to enter to truly understand what's really going on. Otherwise, you'll always be an outsider looking in and basing your business plan on false assumptions.[/color:qtt6yzl6] * What tactics would you recommend that would not only allow me to communicate with my customers regularly, but allow my company to stand out among the competition? -Producing a really good newsletter and making it easy for customers to provide you with feedback.[/color:qtt6yzl6]
Sponsorship $ Sponsorship $ - Garth - typically small business owners don't engage too much in sponsorship because it usually acts as more of a branding exercise and is hard to tie back to sales. Have you looked at how the groups can increase your exposure to potential customers? Can you have your fliers handed out? Can you or someone from your company sit in on the meetings? Are you linked directly from their website? Small businesses need to stretch their marketing budgets as far as they can and you can't afford to be spending on initiatives that aren't generating results.
Re: HOW DO I STAND OUT FROM THE REST? Re: HOW DO I STAND OUT FROM THE REST? - Attracting customers towards business is always being a difficult task. Top brands always try to attract customers and make some unique TV commercials for marketing purposes. You need to work on the same pattern. Keep an eye on your competitor and use unique, new or out of the box marketing techniques to divert the consumer’s attention towards your business.
Re: Ideas For Business Re: Ideas For Business -
Hi, I'm Lucy's partner for this project and I think I came up with an idea of how to attract people. Sure selling is one thing, but heres something that definitely attracts people and thats charity! Everywhere you look today, even in the subway their selling pizzas that cost much higher then what you could buy at the store, but mostly people buy them because they know their money would go to charity and that makes them feel good and makes them think that they have just made a difference. I still have not figured out the percentage but if we donate like 25% of the money earned to charity for example, more people would buy. Charity is used in business to help people out but as well as attract more customers to their business. I know this might sound like a stupid idea but hey you can never know for sure until you try your ideas. Thats what business is all about.[/quote:191lb7aa] Finding a charity that is important to the people you will market to is a big help. Its also good if you are personally enthusiastic about the charity. If you do a good size event with a charity, there are great ways to promote and lots of free promotion - but that would be a big event and you need the support of the charity. Shri
