Create an Outrageously Healthy Work Environment
Once we are out of our home environment we do have to be mindful of the influences of others who may or may not be - or may not want to be - as outrageously healthy as you.
Taking your lunch to work is a great strategy, and it looks after your financial budget as well. Try putting a fruit bowl on your desk along with your water bottle to support healthy snacking. You could even encourage team members to drink more water at work so they are more alert, focused and energised. If your employer was shown the benefits to workplace productivity by having all staff hydrated they may even supply a pure water cooler for staff. Many workplaces also order fruit boxes for staff to share.
Keep a water bottle on your desk and make sure it is topped up regularly so you can sip throughout the day to keep dehydration and misplaced hunger at bay.
Some workplaces have regular morning teas or lunches where they get staff together for training or team bonding, someone’s birthday or a leaving party. Offer to assist prepare for staff morning teas or help order the catering when your employer is providing refreshments. This way you can ensure some outrageously healthy options are available for you – and the team. In my experience these often go first. Many people would choose fresh-cut fruit, if the option was there, rather than heavy or creamy cakes and biscuits for morning or afternoon tea.
Of course sometimes we will partake in the foods we wish to limit, so there are a few things to remember on these occasions. Treats are fine now and again, but remember to keep your daily habits as outrageously healthy ones. Secondly, if you consciously decide to have something you would not usually consider as part of your outrageously healthy eating habits, then eat it, enjoy it and don’t waste time feeling guilty. Just get back to your preferred eating habits for the next meal.
