One Bite at a Time

So many of us try diets, new businesses, new relationships and much more with a fervor. We rush in with excitement and motivation. What happens? Often, as we lose momentum, we begin to stray from our plans. We lose focus on why it excited us. Regardless of whether you are dieting or working on some other goal, it all revolves around keeping track of your goals.

Dreams and Goals are both very important. Many goals in life, start out as justa dream. It switches when you create steps to actually achieve it. Think of it this way, there is a saying; "How do you eat an elephant?" "One Bite at a Time" is the answer. If you just say, wow I wish I could eat an elephant, that seems pretty impossible. You don't have over how much time. You don't have a daily intake goal. It is a dream. But break it down to, I will eat an elephant over a year. Now it is a goal. So then, what do you need to do tomake adream a goal? Break it down into bite sized steps.

Make your goals SMART goals first and foremost.

S- Be specific, the broader your goal, the more difficult it will be to figure out if you are making progress.

M- Measurable. Have small bite sized steps for each week and day. Six things I will achieve today towards my weekly goal of....

A- Achievable - Do you have the training or supplies to achieve what you are seeking, if not, that needs to be an early goal.

R- Realistic - If you put that you want to breathe water and it is against the scientific possibilities.. how can you achieve that? However, don't shoot to low either. Remember the saying.. if I shoot for the moon and miss, at least I land amongst the stars.

T- It needs time measurement for each step. I will achieve.. . by... If you don't make it, don't give up. Analyse where you are, what progress you are making and reset your timeline. It may be that you didn't give yourself enough of the "R". In other words, it is an achievable goal but you gave it an aggressive time frame.

Most importantly.. Don't Quit!

Regardless of whether your goal is a business, a home, a dollar amount or a pound on a scale.... the only way to reach each of these goals is to monitor your daily steps...

Books that should be written Books that should be written - [quote:1m0dcpd7]"The Idiots Guide To Sticking With One Thing At A Time and Not Doing Something New All The Time" [/quote:1m0dcpd7] I myself am a 'constructive' procrastinator... I don't know if I'm alone in this. I have about six or seven projects I'm working on at any given time. I get one project almost done... then my interest is piqued by another project and I work on that... I get burnt out and move to another...I know I do this so I have it arranged such that once I get bored or burnt out with one project, I can step right back into project 1 - or 2 or 3, and get that a little bit more done before moving on to something else. As long as you're organized and know where all your reference material/idea sheets are when you're ready to get back to work on each project, it should be fine. I also find that by stepping away from a project - I still work on it in the recesses of my mind so that when I go back to it - it's with some good ideas that I wouldn't have had if I'd continued on with it originally. Maybe I should write a book on how to Procrastinate Constructively... I've actually thought about doing that...because most people procrastinate, don't they...and very few are ever able to stop.
