Sales Skills – Personal Sales Techniques

There would be no businesses without sales. If there are no sales there is no company. That, I know, is stating the obvious but a lot of people are nervous about selling and question their sales skills. Think about it, really think about it. I did. This is what I discovered.

First, I don't know anyone that starts a business that does not really want it to succeed. It's hard work, crossing all the t's and dotting all the i's, studying and poured over everything you need to learn, preparing yourself for every contingency you can think of and then the big moment happens. A customer, a real live customer! It's exciting... but then you stop in your tracks. What do you say to this person to convince him to buy what you are selling? Sound familiar? I'll tell you what I did; I just listened and talked to him. You know what? He bought my product. Was I using great sales skills? Maybe not by the definition of many skilled salesmen, but I think most of the successful business people would agree that a great listener sells more than a great talker.

I thought about it some more and realized I was focusing on the future, looking at the horizon. Don't get me wrong here; you need long term goals to take you where you want to go. The point I would like to make is that when you start to focus on the steps you needed to take to get to those goals, do the day to day work that needs to be done, practiced and completed tasks, you become more confident while reaping the benefits of posturing and growing leadership and sales skills, when you do this you change your mindset and your business grows. It becomes easier to identify what your customer wants and needs and how you can help them get it. If you listen and offer a solution the customer decides that your product is exactly what he needs, and the sale is complete.

In my opinion sales skills are not a list of hard and fast steps and rules. They are a natural progression of all your hard work, your knowledge and commitment to your business, yourself and your belief in your product.

niche forum categories niche forum categories - I think Kevin just touched on the point that I was going make... and that is developing 'categories' that stick. Sales and Marketing may be too broad for example. However I can almost guarantee you that you would see many more sign-ups if you tailored a category to 'internet marketing' for newbies. I've seen this work on other forums, however, [i:1i903wkn]it can get a little frantic[/i:1i903wkn]... Fine tuning the categories, or expanding the scope should be effective. I think a lot of IM folks are surfing right on by because they're not finding what they're looking for here... The signature links to their site - if they have one - can / should be motivation enough to get more involved. The more internet savvy members that have signatures seem to stick around more... taxes in canada taxes in canada - Well in Canada we only have a few provinces and the Sales tax is slightly different. Here in Ontario the Goods & Services tax has reduced to 5% from 7% in the last year due to the promises made by the government in place.
