What Are the Best MLM Businesses For Seniors - 3 Criteria For You to Contemplate

Guest post by: Lynn Dorman, Ph.D., J.D.

Article Overview: The myth of seniors sitting at home in their rocking chair is rapidly dissipating, as more and more seniors are becoming entrepreneurs. Today's 60 or 65-year-old is not ready to "retire." And it looks like the 65, 70, [or even 75 and older] are not retiring either - instead many are becoming entrepreneurs. No sitting at home for these active minds!

What Are the Best MLM Businesses For Seniors - 3 Criteria For You to Contemplate

The myth of seniors sitting at home in their rocking chair is rapidly dissipating, as more and more seniors are becoming entrepreneurs. Today's 60 or 65-year-old is not ready to "retire." And it looks like the 65, 70, [or even 75 and older] are not retiring either - instead many are becoming entrepreneurs. No sitting at home for these active minds!

We know that staying active and challenging one's mind with new tasks are ways to stay healthy as we age. What better way than to join a network marketing business where you are the CEO - a sure way to keep the brain cells active!

How do you decide which MLM or network marketing company to join and work with? [MLM and network marketing are used interchangeably to describe the same business model.]

There are 3 important criteria:

These criteria of knowing, trusting and liking are the same for all ages and businesses; but as we get older we tend to want a company we can "settle into" quickly so I think they are more highly critical for seniors.

1- Loving and using the products.

When looking at a company you may want to try the products as a consumer before joining as an associate and make sure you love them. Or - you can skip this step if know and trust the person telling you about them - and you know that person uses the products.

This knowing and trusting leads into the 2nd criteria:

2- Liking, enjoying and trusting the others in your network.

Network marketing is a social activity. You have to talk with people and so it keeps one engaged socially as one ages. But it is best for your personal aging if you really enjoy spending time with those in your chosen company.

Attend a few local meetings about the company and the products to see how much you enjoy chatting with and learning from those in the room. If you do join, you too will bring people to meetings like this and many will become your good friends - so this is an important criteria.

3 - Making sure the compensation plan is a good one.

If you are going to put in your valuable time and energy - make sure you are well paid for your efforts.

There are so many variations on compensation plans; you will have to compare one with another and decide what works for you. Often independent sources rate MLM plans and you can look up that information online.

Extra caveat:

Don't fall for the "make money fast" or "get in at the beginning." Network marketing takes work and a good company will be around for a long time and it will not matter when you join.

Think like an Association Think like an Association - Hey Sebastian, Maybe you could try thinking like an Association... I would study the structure or formats used by other Associations. What are they doing to add value for their members? The BBB plays a monitoring role for consumers by gathering data about business' that are behaving badly. And they're pretty successful at it too. Maybe you can offer a 'Platinum Program' that franchisors buy into. Accredited members only. Criteria could be strict: 1. Age (stability): 10+ years 2. Satisfied franchisees: 85% + satisfaction 3. Size (stability again): 250 units 4. Strong profits 5. Great management -Maybe a 'Gold Program' for those Franchisors that aren't quite at that level, but can strive to reach it... -Top 100, 500, 1000 Listing for qualified members... maybe a slap at Entrepreneur.com and their biased top 10 lists... -Maybe act as a monitor like BBB? -Maybe team up with FranSurvey OR do something similar for each member (not sure about Fransurvey's rep, but I like the concept) There's so much discontent within the franchising arena that I think if you were part of the solution, then you could create a win/win with your Association. The only downside is that this power can get abused if there aren't good checks and balances within the association.

Re: New business.. check us out! Love any feedback! Re: New business.. check us out! Love any feedback! - Hello all, I am new to this forum and would like some feedback too. I currently own and operate ConsumerBranch LLC. Please, feel free to type that name along with a ".com" at the end to visit the URL. Anyways, my service that I provide allows businesses to visit a central location to purchase products for their business and/or a service that they provide. I am able to provide this service due to suppliers willingness to join ConsumerBranch and all their products. Each supplier will have their very own profile in which all products will be displayed. Businesses, also known as buyers, will be provided their own profile as well. Businesses purchasing products will be able to track each supplier they deem as 'favorite' by subscribing to the respective supplier. Also, purchasers who repeatedly buy the same product will have the ability to mark a respective product as 'favorite' to track it for future reference. That is snippet of what ConsumerBranch is about. I have much more to explain in the coming days. I am excited to have created such a complex service for businesses. Please provide feedback and comments about your advice. Thank you for your time, Justin Sinsel CEO ConsumerBranch
Startup Challenges Startup Challenges - Kevin - it's a great read - you should pick it up! John - what kind of services are you offering? Your signature says "Providing Big Business Resources to Small Businesses" I have always found big companies to be hard to work with and slow to make decisions but smaller companies are more risk-tolerant and understand the online world.

Please let me know if there are any troubles finding it.[/quote:2696kbgu] Nope, still don't see it. I see the Online Businesses forum but that has been there for a long time. Is that what you mean? I don't see any Internet Marketing section.
