Do Companies Hate Their Customers? Or Do They Just Not Care?

In the past several months I have heard of more than a few tales of bad customer service from rather large corporations. A few of the issues:

An anecdotal study seemed to find that persons over 65 were more upset by these poor business practices than persons under 35.

Why? Persons under 35 see this as a normal course of business and some of them said they would just be willing to pay the extra amounts, forego the insurance money or just drop the issue as a waste of their time.

The persons over 65 are different, I think, because they know there was a time when the idea of the customer being right was the mantra of most companies.

And the companies?

They probably DO count on most persons paying up and not arguing. After all, they have the deeper pockets for any confrontation that might involve an attorney or even an Attorney General.

And if they lose? They just pay a fine and add that to the "cost of doing business."

But where does that leave the consumer? At the mercy of the company or corporation? NO!

What can consumers do?

And then be ready to file the complaints - using that file, or files, you have saved on your computer!

Caveat: I no longer practice law but I still know how to do consumer advocacy research.

Re: Hi I'm new here Re: Hi I'm new here - BIG WELCOME TO THE FORUM. I love it when someone other than Japanese is learning JAPANESE KAIZEN philosophy. And it's funny how Malaysian and Japanese are gathering at a Canadian entreprenuers forum. I've only worked for three companies in US after college, all Fortune 500. But they all care about shareholders and not so much about customers. They say they do, but not really from what I know as customer service and they nickle and dime from their customers feeling the pressure from their shareholders to make every quarter big. Companies here do many things to their customers simply "because they can". Sorry to get sidetrack as usual. Sayonara, Takuya
Comapnies that release buggy software Comapnies that release buggy software - I know that companies have been doing this for a long time - rushing software into release and then sending out "patches" for the many problems they have later on, but I've never understood it. Surely the bad will they generate is enough to drive away customers?? Having said that, I've got Windows XP, it works just fine for me, and I see no point in changing. Call me an old fuddy duddy, but in my experience new software usually takes away stuff you loved about the old application, and puts in new stuff that you hate, because no one ever asks the users what they want...it's all done by techheads....or whatever the term for those guys is these days...
Re: Improving Cash Flow Re: Improving Cash Flow - Hi aquinm78, Thank you for providing a great list. Your 10 tips are most important for regulating cash flow for any business. I particularly agree about number 3 because there are many hard working people with successful business’s who have gone to the wall simply because they couldn’t get paid on time by their customers. This is where factoring companies can be useful as they take care of all you’re invoicing for a small fee and will guarantee an income every week, regards, Mal.
Re: When is your interest peaked by unsolicited mail? Re: When is your interest peaked by unsolicited mail? - NEVER! If I know an email is unsolicited (spam) then I will always delete it without reading it no matter what. I don't care what the headline is or anything else about it. Spammers get nowhere with me ever, I hate it that much!
Re: Old boy network vs qualifications Re: Old boy network vs qualifications - [quote="OmnivoreInk":26kthyjz]Basically this is what's called nepotism! Or the old boy network. Friends getting friends and family of friends jobs. Which is fine if the person is actually qualified to do the job they're given... But it can generate jealousy, if other people feel the person was given the job based solely on who they know...[/quote:26kthyjz] I know it can be unfair, but life's unfair in many cases. Besides people shouldn't hate or be jealous of those who got a "free pass" into the company because they would do the same if given the opportunity. How many students got summer or entry level positions because of who they were related to in most large companies? If you had the choice between working for minimum wage or making 3 times as much per hour working at your mother or father's company... which would you pick? Moreover, I don't think people should be ashamed or have to apologize for accepting a handout just so long as they don't take it for granted (i.e. they work hard to ensure they do the best job possible). Don't hate the player, hate the game.
