What Not To Wear: Can you see yourself in these 6 makeovers?

If I were to tell you that you are now eligible to receive a Wardrobe Makeover for FREE, would you spring for it? Or would you even believe me? Okay, so I many not have $5,000 to hand over to each and every one of you, as they do on the popular TV show What Not To Wear. But I could definitely help you balance out your potentially lopsided business wardrobe with some light tips.

Perhaps you have only one type of Cliff Jumping outfit? Or maybe you have every conceivable Cliff Jumping uniform? No matter what holds true for you, what is important to be aware of is: Which one of these six different 'faces' (aka outfits) is the most worn out from overuse?

  1. The Adventurer: You are a natural risk taker who is very adept at exploring new ideas and markets.
  2. The Innovator: You are a natural troubleshooter or consultant, who sees connections and finds solutions that others do not come up with.
  3. The Maverick: You are a go-getter who is highly individualistic whose ultimate motivator is money.
  4. The Nonconformist: You are a daydreamer who is very talented creatively/artistically and intent on not getting boxed in.
  5. The Thinker: You are an intellect who needs lots of quiet time for thinking and self-reflection.
  6. The Rebel: You are a straight shooter who is willing to break rules to be successful.
All that glitters is not gold: Appealing as they may be, each outfit when over-worn can cause a wardrobe (aka lifestyle) malfunction. Take a look at the characteristics, the downside of each outfit, and related business makeover tips below.

The Adventurer

Wardrobe Malfunction #1: Your habit of being in overdrive can at times impair your judgment and creativity.

Business Makeover Tip #1: Instead of automatically rushing in to fix things, think about whether it is a priority for you to give these your attention. Sometimes it is better to just let go of something, rather than tinker with it to make it work.

The Innovator

Wardrobe Malfunction #2:
You are very innovative. However, you may find it difficult to know how to discern the potentially successful ideas from the duds.

Business Makeover Tip #2: Stay grounded and be sure to fully follow through on the appropriate ideas. Getting someone to help you design organizational and delivery systems would help you stay focused and productive in that regard. They will be able to take your idea to implementation mode where a positive outcome is then highly likely.

The Maverick

Wardrobe Malfunction #3: You are financially always in catch-up mode, which means that you may at times sacrifice long-term goals for short-term gains.

Business Makeover Tip #3: Take good care of your health. After all, your need for money may prevent you from getting the sleep, exercise, and quality relationship time you need to function at 100 percent.

The Nonconformist

Wardrobe Malfunction #4: When you ignore your talents, you tend to become frustrated, and eventually depressed. This will tend to adversely affect how you show up in front of your clients and colleagues.

Business Makeover Tip #4: Focusing on the task at hand is a challenge for you. For this reason, for optimal concentration, be sure to keep your thoughts, workspace, and life uncluttered as much as possible. Again, you may want to delegate this to an assistant or coach who has experience and expertise in this area. If this is not feasible, then allocate 15 to 30 minutes per day toward de-cluttering and getting organized for the next day.

The Rebel

Wardrobe Malfunction #5: Your natural anti-authoritarian attitude and tendency to avoid negotiating sticky situations sometimes get you into trouble.

Business Makeover Tip #5: When making significant decisions, get out of your own way: do not allow your need to be right to muddy your judgment. Also to be perfectly safe and sure, ask a friend or coach to be an objective sounding board for you.

The Thinker

Wardrobe Malfunction #6: Being more thoughtful and spiritual than practical makes it more challenging for you to keep your business or life financially successful.

Business Makeover Tip #6: Since thinking and feeling are important to you, it would be wise for you to hire someone who helps you stay on track: respecting deadlines, contracts, and doing competitive intelligence research.
