Where are you feeling the love?: How to attract ideal clients, not tire kickers

Where do you consistently and mostly feel the love… from the inside or outside of yourself once you have set intentions regarding who and what you want to attract in business? How can you tell the difference between the two? Easy… start by looking at this question and check off the single statements that apply to you.

Having clients makes me feel valuable because...

…I am making money.

…their hiring me is proof that I can give them value.

…they give me the validation I need to feel valuable.

…I have the opportunity to give them the help they want or need.

…I look busy and/or productive.

You see, attracting ideal clients is less complicated than you may think or believe. To help discern the difference between attracting ideal clients and tire kickers, or on a broader level, abundance versus lack, you need to know this: Feeling valuable due to factors that are not consistently within your control (external instead of internal) can create much chaos in your life, as in an inconsistent flow of clients and fickle clients (yes… the tire kickers), for instance. The truth is, you cannot give (and therefore receive) what you do not believe in and embrace -- like your expertise, knowledge and compassion (the latter two recommended by Tim Sanders, author of Love Is the Killer App) -- when you are relying on things like proof of success or external validation to begin or continue committing yourself to some aspect of your business. Believing and embracing are intrinsic qualities, not extrinsic ones. Every time you focus your attention and action from the outside in, as opposed to inside out, you get off (life) purpose and off track in your business, which results in the attraction of more lack instead of more abundance into your life.

Another important piece to this prosperity (not poverty) puzzle is this: Much of what you believe is either irrational and/or points to an area of growth that you need to invest in to become a better business professional, lover, parent,.... you name it. For instance, if you lose a client, how you react to what you may perceive as a ‘loss’ will say much about you – just like lost luggage will. So, instead of panicking, begin practicing high-level responses. Adopting faith and trust that everything will work out and taking the appropriate powerful action represents a more constructive solution.

Also, if you checked any of the items in the above example -- Having clients makes me feel valuable because... -- try this out for yourself with an issue that is currently causing you problems or hardships:

Having (or doing) X makes me feel (or create) Y because of Z.

Keep filling in the X, Y and Z items as many times as you can... until you have run out of answers.

What do your answers reveal about you, including your current beliefs and attitudes? Like the fly who continually bumps up against a window pane, thinking that he is going to get through using this myopic approach, could you profit from letting go of the beliefs and attitudes that lead you to a dead end, and replace them with ones that give you options and opportunities instead of obstacles? Remember, your beliefs and attitudes directly impact your behaviors and actions. So, where you consistently and predominantly feel the love -- inside or outside — will determine whether you magnetize mostly ideal clients (more abundance) or tire kickers (or more lack). Think about it... believe it, and do not forget to feel it fully and passionately too!

Re: Advice needed to implement an online business..please help Re: Advice needed to implement an online business..please help - [quote="galbaras":3jv6a5pv] At a car yard, tire kickers pretend to be checking out the cars, when in fact they have no idea how to check them. A crafty salesman might be able to sell them anything, but we run an ethical business and refuse to cheat people for one-time gain. We'd rather build long-term relationships in Australia, where we can get significant repeat business. Thank you for sharing your perspective, Gal[/quote:3jv6a5pv] Obviously we have various opinions and perspectives based on individual experiences. Getting into a field where I can market to and work with people around the world effectively has changed many perspectives. Over the years I've had many opportunities to turn businesses around that had the mentality to take a customer for all they could in their first visit. I'm fortunate to be in a business where I offer a wide variety of services and that allows me to take those "tire kickers" and help them understand how I can help them and how to understand the details and differences, and to provide more than they expected. Its wonderful to do that for clients without resorting to deceit, cheating or lack of ethics. What's interesting is the number of times I've gotten email from people who seemed not to be my target audience at all, but they turned out to be a great client once we understand each other better. However, most of my clients are people who can effectively market around the globe, so I come into conversations with a different perspective. But, I'll remember in the future that the way I'm used to promoting to a much broader audience is something you don't do. Shri
Re: help wanted in u.k. Re: help wanted in u.k. - oh well...i guess it weeds out the tire kickers so we dont waste our time.. ;0)
Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? - Tradeshows can be a great addition to your marketing strategies but in order for them to be positive, you must know what you are hoping to accomplish. most tradeshows now are very niched and very expensive. when you are starting out - attend as many as you can and gather as much information, and as many contacts as possible. you also need to make sure that tradeshows arent your only strategy. there are alot of tire kickers at tradeshows so be informed and aware... set goals and try new things
Re: Question of the week: Does free work? Re: Question of the week: Does free work? - It seems as though a lot of the time when you give something away for free people tend to think it isn't of much value, even if it really is very valuable and could be sold for a high price. And you waste a lot of time with tire kickers that never end up purchasing anything. Ultimately it depends on why/how you are doing it... If you are doing it to build a list or some reputation, or something else along those lines it can be great. But if you are actually giving away your precious time (as in consulting) then I don't think it would be worth it. If you have a membership site where the first month is free then it automatically bills them after that it can also be a great way to get new members.
Re: Does it help to join business groups? Re: Does it help to join business groups? - I used to just randomly go to groups. Maybe I was invited, maybe it was a new group I found, maybe, maybe. Then when I created my ideal client profile I stopped all that. Now I attend meetings where a) the majority of the members are my ideal clients b) a majority of the members know my ideal clients. It cuts down my networking time, the costs involved in networking, and I have a better chance of being recommended to others because I'm hanging out with the right people. I do visit new groups from time to time; but usually call first to get a better idea of whom the members are.
