Backlinking for Online Business Success

I'm sure you've heard about the importance of link building to your online business but if you're a little confused about it, that's o.k - you're not alone! In this article, I share my advice and experience with successful link building.

If there is one thing that most Search Engine Optimization gurus agree on, it's the following: 1. Backlinks are a MUST to improve the rankings of your site in the Search Engine Results

2. You don't need hundreds, or even thousands, of backlinks to your site though

3. You need highly targetted, high quality, well placed links back to your site.

What is a backlink?

A backlink is simply a link from another site back to your site.

Each link from a site external to yours, is considered a vote for popularity by the Search Engines, increasing the placement of your site in the search engine results.

Given that, the more quality links from external sites - the better.

However, don't get caught by those who will have you believe that you need hundreds, if not thousands of links to your site to be effective. Testing, and Search Engine gurus, has proven that even just a handful of high quality back links to your site can be effective. There may be absolutely no need to buy a back link package at all.

If you do decide to buy a backlinks to your site, care should be given to where those links are from and how they link to your site.

Here are four really easy, and time effective ways, to gain high quality backlinks to your site...

1. Social Networks

Responding and participating on Social Networks and linking back to your blog posts, content pages and products.

When linking from these networks ensure that you use the correct anchor text. The anchor text - the text that shows as the link - should have your keywords in it.

Sites that seem work really well are Ecademy and, if you have a BlogTalkRadio show, the Blog Talk Radio blog.

2. Blog Commenting

Commenting on blog posts in your niche and adding to the discussion, is not only a great way to highlight your credibility but it's also a great way to generate back links to your site and pages.

Make sure though, that you are adding to the discussion on the blog and not just leaving comments for the sake of leaving comments.

3. Create Squidoo Lenses and Hubpages

Squidoo and Hubpages are content sites that allow you to easily, and relatively, quickly create content related to your chosen topic. Squidoo and Hubpages are considered 'authority' sites by the Search Engines.

Create a Squidoo lens about your topic and link back to your website, pages or blog. Squidoo ranks well in the Search Engine results and I found that my site was often found for my lens before it was found for itself.

Hubpages are the same - they use a different interface and system however, the intent and impact is the same.

4. Twitter and Plurk, Great Microblogging Engines

Using microblogging engines like Twitter and Plurk is also a great way to create backlinks to your site.

With Twitter and Plurk, you can send 140 character updates. Through careful planning and thought, you will be able to create backlinks to your site with appropriate keywords.

These are 4 simple methods to create backlinks to your site yourself. Take some time and create your own high quality backlinks to help increase the rankings of your site in the Search Engines.
