Smart Phones for Savvy Business Owners
Smart Phones and The Cloud are really tightly linked. If you haven’t already made the switch to a Smart Phone or a Tablet device (iPad / Galaxy Tab etc), I bet you know someone who has done so already… and, if you’re saying “So what, all I need is a phone”, I’m here to tell you that if you are in business, these devices will revolutionise the way you do business. As a business owner, you should consider adding a Smart Phone (or tablet) and Cloud technology to your toolkit.
Syncing Cloud Services...
Cloud storage has some fabulous benefits for a small business or solopreneur, but it can also have some drawbacks – particularly when your clients use different systems! As a small business owner, who works in distributed client teams, I find that I am often overwhelmed by the number of Cloud services that I have to use to be effective in my client teams. I have my own online folder system that allows me to easily manage my business from anywhere, on any device (Android, iPad, iPhone, computer, Web interface) – but I also have to be able to share my files with the client, using their preferred system. It can get very complicated at times – particularly if you forget to copy a file from one system to another!
Just what does Web Hosting Bandwidth & Storage really mean?
With the way most websites are setup, images; audios and videos are typically stored on the webserver. There is generally nothing wrong with this setup – but as a site owner, we have to be aware of the limitations for data storage or bandwidth usage that form our hosting plans. Recently, I’ve had discussion with several clients who have been reaching the limits of data storage and bandwidth and what they can do about it. The main questions that came out of these dicussions were – “What does it all mean”!
How Do I Sell My Stuff Online?
I get asked – A LOT – about how to “sell products from my website”. These questions are normally prompted because the business owner has been prompted by a business coach, or an internet marketing type seminar, to start selling online. This is GREAT however, getting the ‘ECommerce” part of your website or webpresence up and running requires thought and planning, to ensure that you aren’t just flushing money down the drain.
Google Panda and Your Search Engine Rankings
It has been a long held belief of mine that if you want your site to rank well and consistently in the search engines, then you need to be providing good quality information (content) to your visitors and a great user experience.I’m also an advocate of using articles on other sites as part of your marketing strategy…. But lately I’ve been hearing a lot about Google’s Panda update and what that means to this style of strategy.
Facebook - Privacy - Images - And You
Facebook is great for connecting – but be careful how much you share! When you upload content to facebook, you may be giving others an unlimited license to use your content in any way they want.
Shopping Cart Independant Affiliate Programs
There are several ways to provide an affiliate program, that are independent to a shopping cart. Of course, there are some shopping carts that also provide Affiliate Programs – but it’s not always the case. Here are some ways that you can implement an Affiliate Program, almost regardless of the shopping cart you use!
Which Comes First - Website Design or Logo?
What is the best way forward – buy a WordPress Theme and then get your logo and website header designed to use in the theme or do this the other way around? Can most logos and headers be integrated into WordPress Themes or should they be specially created to “fit” a specific theme?
Business Continuity Planning - What Happens If Something Happens To You?
Many small business owners end up being the ‘centre’ of their business. All their passwords and accesses are locked away in their head or their personal password list and if something goes wrong, there is no-one who can step in and make sure the business remains operational. Have you considered how your processes will cope if you, as the ‘centre’ of your business, will operate if you are incommunicado or just incapable of ‘being there’? Seriously – this is a big thing. Recently, I was affected by the need to make a certain change to one of my systems and the ONLY person who could authorise the change was not available – and NO ONE knew when they would be available. My only option at that point was to transfer my business to another supplier that could allow the change to occur….
2 Ways To Create Fresh Content For Your Website
If you want your website to rank well in the Search Engines, the thing to remember is that content is king and Google likes fresh content, but it also looks for depth of content… How often do you add new content to site? Do you have a schedule for producing new content? If not, it’s now time to get that schedule in place and start improving your website rankings. Stuck on what to write to about? Here’s some headline ideas that might get the creative juices flowing:
