The Great Work You Were Born To Do

You will, no doubt, "reinvent" yourself many times throughout your life. To be honest, I'm not so much a fan of the term reinvention as I am of the concept of growing into your best self. As we are exposed to new experiences in life and contemplate what our legacy is going to be, we grow into richer and more vibrant versions of ourselves.

One of the most important ways we define ourselves is by the work we do in life. Call it a job, career, or calling, it is when we find meaning in our work that we are the most satisfied and fulfilled. The process of selecting a career is more than simply thinking about your passion; it is a continual reassessment of finding, gathering, and reassessing information about you!

Below are some steps to get you started in finding your great work.

First, you must focus on yourself. Continue to identify your interests, abilities, values, your why, and what you like to do. Make sure that when you are identifying these things, that they are your thoughts; not someone else's expectations, assumptions, or beliefs about you.

Gather possibilities. Once you have identified what makes you tick, what are the career possibilities that would appeal to you? Do they fit your values and your life plan?

Make a decision and start formulating a plan. This step is one many people have difficulty with implementing. It can seem overwhelming when thinking about making such a momentous leap. It is very helpful to think of the plan as a series of steps that will take you one step closer to the desired goal.

Get moving. Once the plan has been formulated it's time to get moving. This phase is when the fear can set in and create ‘analysis paralysis. Don't ignore these fears; acknowledge them and pat yourself on the back for stepping out of your comfort zone.

Get support and feedback. Make sure that the people you are surrounding yourself with support your goals. It's a long road when you don't have the support you need to get where you want to go. This is where a career coach can be invaluable in providing a supportive, yet objective environment for you to get feedback, uncover any beliefs that may be holding you back and provide you with accountability as you create the life you crave.

Sell the business and start another one maybe - but retire - NEVER! You should all read, The 4 Hour Work Week - By Timothy Ferris. He talks about building your business so that you can take mini 'retirement's throughout your life, instead of saving it all up for when you are old. Great concept - what do you think??
