Why You Need a Mentor

Successful women entrepreneurs understand the importance of having a mentor. In fact, developing a portfolio of mentors to meet different aspects of your life, both personally and professionally, is critical! Choosing a mentor is one of the most important decisions you can make as a professional. Mentors should be those whose work you admire, possess strong leadership abilities, and are an inspiration to you and others. Mentors are experts within a particular field and offer a wealth of experience. They help you through the good and the bad!

So do you need a mentor? Yes, and here's why.

Accountability

A mentor will hold you accountable. Often, business owners neglect important aspects of their businesses such as marketing, financial obligations or operations. A mentor will hold you accountable for your actions, help you set realistic goals and assist you in finding ways to balance your time.

Help to Achieve Your Goals

A mentor will help you define and reach short and long term goals. Setting realistic goals for your business is important. Your mentor will help you think through possible goals, ask clarifying questions to help you define them while developing strategies to keep you focused from day-to-day pressures of business and family.

Objectivity

A mentor is able to offer you an outsider's point of view. As you grow in your business, it is easy to reach a plateau. A good mentor will bring a new prospective along with a fresh set of eyes. This will help you work more efficiently with a clearer view of your company's future growth.

Support

A mentor is like a trusted colleague to discuss problems and find solutions. When you hire a mentor, you gain a confidante; someone to brainstorm with - a great sounding board!

Expertise and Insight

A good mentor is worldly with a wealth of business experience to help you grow your business. Is your marketing strategy stale? Out of ideas for marketing to your clients? Well, a mentor is a veteran in his/her own right and can give you sound advice from years of experience.

It is important to establish a clear understanding of your relationship with your mentor. Your mentor is there to help you focus on taking your business to the next level and, ultimately, to see you succeed.

Re: Business Women Peer Mentoring Spotlight Re: Business Women Peer Mentoring Spotlight - That is a great idea, David. This is what I had in mind for the Women's section, but it makes sense to post in on the main site. Of course, I'm waiting for some women to step up to the plate and share how they could use some support on taking the next step with their business! If you are a Business Woman reading this, I invite you to consider that this is not displaying weakness in any form. Peer mentoring and Coaching is incredibly valuable. You get to bounce your ideas off others, hear perspectives from outside your own box, and feel the power of others cheering you on. To me, it's wisdom to use all of our available resources to move towards business success. That's why I have my own Coach and my own Mentor Coaching Group. I also offer that to my clients. These are services one usually has to pay for and you could enjoy some of it free right here! So who wants to start? Can you tell I'm excited about the possibilities for you even before you begin? Warmly, Tami
