Negativity can push you to greatness

When Obama first ran for president he would hold meetings and nobody would show up. There was never an African American president before, and he was so young and no one knew him. Everyone advised him to wait but he didn't listen. Everyone being against him, he made him self try harder. America wasn't ready for the first black president but he was ready, and with a winning campaign he won in the end. He believed in his self and allowed the negativity to push him to greatness.

Re: Who/what inspired you? Re: Who/what inspired you? - Thanks for sharing GT and Tanny! Very interesting and hopefully inspirational to other forum readers. Sometimes we just need a little push over a hurdle and perhaps reading about who inspires others will lead us to read about those same people and give us the little push we need to get over a hump or slump now and then.
Re: The greatest gold mine in the world Re: The greatest gold mine in the world - When I saw the title of this post, I immediately thought, "YOU are the greatest asset to be mined". Yes, our brain IS a gold mine, but even richer is the asset of YOU with your mind. I like to think of each of us having a genius to be unveiled. Your gifts and abilities, along with your mind, are brought to life by who you ARE. It is your sense of passion and purpose which will unveil the greatness within. When Shri mentioned thinking outside the box, it made me think of possibility. When we open up to possibility and bring our whole genius along for the ride, well, the sky is the limit! Let's use our minds and our hearts and see what incredible things can happen! Warm regards, Tami
Re: What would you like to see be invented? Re: What would you like to see be invented? - I know that hard-of-hearing and deaf people can get helper dogs who let them know if a doorbell rings or something similar... But for those people who go deaf later in life (for example my mom) who doesn't want a dog (or for those who can't afford them...) It would be nice to have some kind of flashy light on sinks and toilets...and even tubs... to alert people that water is running. (Of course if my Dad would just crack loose with some money and fix the toilet in my mom's bathroom this wouldn't be an issue - but that's a rant for another time and place!) (To explain further, if you dont' push the handle down "just right' to flush the toilet, the little flipper thingy on the whatchacallit in the tank stays open, and the water just runs and runs. It's easy to fix - you just push the flipper thingy down manually, but my mom can't hear the water running and so it could run for hours til my dad notices it...)

When is the best time to open a new business? When is the best time to open a new business? - As a webzine publisher, I can launch a new business (ie, a new webzine) whenever I want. However, its success can be delayed considerably depending on timing. For example, my Tennessee Lady Vols website was moribund for about a year because the Lady Vols didn't win the championship that year, but they won it the nex year and the site itself took off like a rocket - briefly, unfortunately, thanks to Don Imus, but at least now it has steady readership. On the other hand, I started my Jacoby Ellsbury site mid-season, but it took off immediately because of who he was - first Navajo in the Majors, in his rookie season and making an impact - and the fact that the Red Sox went on to win the World Series certianly gave it a push, but it didn't really need it. Of course that's business on the web. What about "bricks and mortars" businesses? Should a retail store start just before Christmas, to get an extra push from that season, or start at the first of the year, or what? Anyone have any thoughts?
