What would you do?
What would you do?
Just before writing this I sat down and played the piano. When I play the piano, I play for me (hint I don’t think it sounds very good to others) and for the feeling and enjoyment I experience. It brings me joy so I do it anyhow! There is something magical about being and creating in the moment.
When I work with clients many will tell me they are not creative and of course we all are. What if we aren’t very good at it but can enjoy it anyhow? How would your life be different? What would it be like if you could set aside the roles and tried doing something differently, not for the results but for the enjoyment of doing and being alive?
As a young woman, I remember spending time with my Aunt. We spent some time together baking. Up until this point I believed to bake a cake you had to follow the recipe and measure all the ingredients precisely or you would have a disaster. Baking with her was a joyful experience. She would throw in a handful of this and that and the delicious treats she would create.
What does your soul long for? Feed your soul and feed your passion for life. Do you love to sing but think you are not good enough so never do? My kids have been telling me for years Mom do not sing, but I do anyhow sometimes because it is fun.
Hey guys how about that golf game? Do you focus on your score or how much you enjoy the game? Do you love to tell jokes but you feel like you should be more serious and you can only be “fun” with people you know. Would you love to be a photographer but think you are really not that good at it and there are more important things to do?
Maybe you think that when you retire you will have time to pursue all those other things. The time to cultivate those interests is now so you will have them to enjoy and look forward to. It will help you bridge that leap to retirement with passion and zest.
Would you go in a marathon if you didn’t have to be the “athlete of the year” and didn’t worry what other people thought? Would you apply for a new job or a new line of work even if you knew you might not be very good at it in the beginning?
Just think of all the possibilities if you don’t have to do it perfectly, the world truly is your oyster. I challenge you to go for it – there may never be a better time!
Embrace and enjoy your life, you deserve it.

What would you do if you didn’t have to do it perfectly? Many of us never discover our passions or follow our heart’s desire. We listen to our inner critic that tells us we are too old, too fat, not talented, etc.
