When you feel like jumping ship!

Making a career change can be one of those huge life changing decisions! As a life coach I get to see the fulfillment, and in some cases, also the despair and anxiety a career choice can bring.

8 Questions to ask yourself when you are thinking of switching gears and changing careers:

1. What is the truth? - Awareness is the first step to changing anything. Are things winding down in your present position, is change inevitable? Are you under employed and not challenged? Is it ho-hum for you? Do you feel like a part of you is dying each day? Will you regret not making a change a year from now? Do you like your job but would like to get along better with your co-workers?

2. What are the feelings? Sometimes these can be tricky. Get in touch with how you are feeling, maybe you are overwhelmed, tired or bored. If you have any of these feelings get clear on the root cause. Making a decision from this place may not always be your best course of action. When we are in this place we quite often cannot see the forest for the trees. This is where a coach can help. I have seen clients completely transform their current career or business by making some small changes over time.

3. Will this pass? Did you work all weekend and not get any time off? Maybe you have started a new program at work and everyone is on edge, will things be better next week?

4. Have I felt this before? Many times we think it is all or nothing. Watch out for this. It is usually anger as the driving force. Anger can be a great motivator to get you into action, just make sure it is not your only reason. Wait until you are calmer to think clearer. Quite often we think we have to change everything and the thought of that can feel much like mission impossible.

5. What can I change? Now that you have asked yourself some questions start looking at ways to improve things. Who can I ask for help?

6. Do I want to change it? Are you ready to change things? Be honest with yourself. If you do not feel you are ready to change things, do things that make you feel good about you or take some extra training. Take some action and you will feel empowered.

7. What are my options? Invest your time to explore and research, you may surprise yourself at all the options and possibilities. I know you want the quick answers but you will be glad you learned all you could. Another exercise I work through with clients is looking at “all” of their experiences in business and in life, that make them who they are. Take a thorough inventory of your strengths and your best skills.

8. What do I want? What makes your heart sing? Get into action and be open to the possibilities – life is a journey not a destination. Your career is a big part of your life so you had better enjoy the ride!

Until next time………..

Go 2 Interviews without suspicion Go 2 Interviews without suspicion - I totally agree with that survey. In the Winter months I'll suit up about 2-3 times per week and it is amazing the difference it makes in perception of my role in the office. Also as a side note people always think I'm going for an interview the first month or so. Eventually they stop asking. So Forum readers if you are thinking of jumping ship and don't want to arouse curiosity among your work colleauges then give it a shot. A few weeks before you plan on sending out your resumes start dressing up (I think the Tie would be too much in most places that are casual)
Re: When do you process online orders? Re: When do you process online orders? - [quote="litekepr":dwjxzl56]If the shipping takes longer - I'm find with that IF the seller made that clear on their sales page and IF they communicate about what's happening. Its the sellers who say they ship immediately and then send later with no communication that irritate me. I always pay immediately and expect quick turnaround. I ordered a PDA and no joking - it didn't arrive for 5 months and the seller never did communicate with me or respond to any messages. When it did finally get here, I looked at the ship date and once they finally shipped it out - I received it within a week. Shri[/quote:dwjxzl56] Hi Shri, As an online seller, I'll always communicate the details (e.g. ship date, confirmation/tracking code, estimated time of arrival, etc.) and sometimes even the options (i.e. Canada Post vs UPS cost to ship) to the buyer. But when your package didn't arrive for so long, why didn't you write to bug the seller?
Re: need pricing help please Re: need pricing help please - Andy, I looked up Kunaki.com and from what I can tell, it looks like they only do CDs and DVDs. My course package includes several books as well as CDs. Although, their pricing is less than Lulu.com for the CDs. Do you know of a company that would produce, package and ship the books and CDs? It seems as though this is still something I might need to do from home; gather the components and package and ship on my own. I really would prefer to do it a different way. Nancy

Ebay: System and method Ebay: System and method - [quote:1y2ddln3]Unless you wanna spend hours packing your products and run everyday to FedEx to ship them, I would not recomment an ebay business [/quote:1y2ddln3] You don't have to run every day to FedEx...if you have that much volume, let Fed Ex come to you! Yes they charge a fee but it saves you time, wear and tear on your car, and cost of gas. Also, rather than do this every day, set aside one day, for example a Friday, and pack everything on that day and ship it out. If you've got the correct-sized boxes and appropriate packing material, it shouldn't take that long to do. Just specify in your ads that winning bids are shipped on the next Friday, so your customers know what's going on, and you should have no hassles.
