7 Steps To Dealing With Fear

Are you struggling dealing with fear in certain situations, where you would much rather have the confidence to do what it is you want to do, or become what you want to become? Did you know that every single person on the planet is afraid of something or other. Fear can be a good thing or a bad thing. It just depends on the situation you are facing. If you are standing in front of ferocious dog, fear can be a good thing: you won't get on your knees to hug or pet the dog. However, fear of holding a Health and Safety presentation is not a good fear: that fear is working against you, as it is preventing you from doing something you ought to do as part of your job or business.

You may be pleased to know that fear is merely a state of mind. And since it is only a state of mind, it is something you can overcome.

Here are 7 steps you can implement as of today so you may overcome any fears that you have. Dealing with fear is not as hard as you might think. When you take action on the 7 steps below, in sequence, you will succeed in dealing with any fear that is holding you back:

Step1

Get a note book or an A4 pad and pen and sit yourself down in a place where you will be alone and will not be disturb for the duration of this process.

Step 2

Draw a line down the middle of the page. On the left column write in big letters "MY FEARS" and on the right column write in big letters "WHY AM I AFRAID?"

Step 3

On the left column jot down all the things you are afraid of. If you run out of space go on to the next page. Make sure you write down as many as you can think of. By the way, if you remember any more fears later on, you may add them and follow the rest of the process.

Step 4

Select your worst fear and on the right column write down all your reasons why this particular thing, situation, person or whatever frightens you. What does your fear consist of, and how do you feel when you are scared? Write down why it is preventing you from doing what you want to do or be?

Step 5

Take a new sheet of paper and note down what you would sincerely like to do or become if you weren't afraid, if you didn't fear that thing, situation or person. It is crucial that you are totally honest with yourself otherwise this won't work.

Step 6

Now here's another crucial part of the process. Sit back in your chair, get comfortable and close your eyes. See through your mind's eye, and feel through your senses, how wonderful it is now that you are doing the thing you wanted or you are being that person that you wanted to be without the slightest sense of fear. Imagine yourself being full of self confidence, courage and enthusiasm, where you have absolutely no fear whatsoever.

You might say you cannot imagine or visualise, that's fine. Start off by practising seeing your living room through your own eyes, as if you are standing in the room. Do that for about 5 seconds, then imagine yourself doing what it was that you were afraid of for about 30 seconds, and do it with emotion.

This is the most important step of the 7. Practice, get it right and you will reap the rewards.

Step 7

After the 30 seconds are over, open your eyes and go back to your notes. Write down, as best you can, how you felt when you were visualising or imagining your success. How confident did you feel? How courageous did you feel? How relaxed did you feel? Be as descriptive as you can.

This method is not new. It's been around for many, many years, yet seldom used correctly. It is an exceptionally powerful method that can bring about life-transformations beyond belief.
