Are You Ready to Improve Your Self Confidence Level?
Did you know that you always determine and judge your self confidence by how you performed in a similar situation sometime in the past, whether it was a week ago, a month ago or as a young person?
If you did well, you think you have great, unstoppable and perhaps unshakeable self confidence. You will feel happy with your performance and you will be highly motivated and ready to do it all over again, and with even more self confidence and poise.
If, however, your performance was less than what you had expected or wanted, you will think you lack self confidence, or your self confidence is weak. And the likelihood of you going through that again is minimal, and you will feel self critical, you will believe you do not have the self confidence to do it, and you will more than likely beat yourself up over it.
We, as human beings, have a habit of reviewing and appraising our self confidence through evaluations and assessments. And these comparisons stem from how we thought we performed in the past, and how we believe others think on how we performed - we think we know how others think about our performance.
When we perform well, we feel confident. When we perform very well, we feel highly confident, perhaps even unstoppably confident, ready to take on the world.
On the other hand, when we perform weakly we feel we lack self confidence, so we fear being in the same situation again as we fear making the same mistakes all over again. If we are put in the same situation we will feel anxious and unconfident.
If we make a mistake we end up lacking self confidence, and that will stop us from wanting to be in a similar situation.
Here are 3 tips that you may use to feel and become more confident, when you feel anxious, and have that sinking feeling of lacking self confidence:
1. In any similar situation or event, write down all the things that you did well. For example, if you did a sales presentation, jot down that you confidently looked around the room at the attendees, you looked calmly into people’s eyes, you spoke slowly and clearly, you knew your subject very well, and so on.
2. Tell yourself Tell yourself regularly that you do not need someone else to make you feel confident. You decide that you are confident, and you alone choose the level of your self confidence. If others tell you that you did very well, great, use their encouragement to boost your level of confidence. If, on the other hand, they were not overly pleased, fine, they can have their own opinion, they are entitled to it. They are not to affect how you feel.
3. The previous tip leads me to number 3, which is, do not take things personally. Build on your self confidence by doing the things that make you anxious over and over again. This way your self confidence will gain momentum and gradually increase. Listen, you cannot please everybody all the time, so take notice of how you feel, keep in mind or track your self confidence from one event to the other and keep on building the confidence momentum.
Go ahead, get out and take risks. The more the better. Start off by doing the things you have not done before, or have not done so well in, and you will soon see, feel and become more and more confident.
