Writing Poetry Under the Moon

Writing Poetry Under the Moon

I attended the European Coaching Conference in Madrid, June 16-18th. The statement, writing poetry under the moon, comes from Julio Mayor, one of the speakers at the conference. Here is a brief introduction to Julio:

Julio Olalla Mayor

Founder and president of The Newfield Network, he is a master at generating learning environments that accelerate the potential for new thinking and action. For more than 30 years, he has trained over 50,000 individuals and worked with more than 300 organizations and government leaders all over the world to challenge traditional thinking and create better teams and stronger leaders. Julio is a masterful keynote speaker, having addressed large audiences in many countries on the topics of leadership, organizational learning, education, and coaching. His message inspires audiences to review their interpretation of learning itself and its practices. He believes that our current understanding of what it is “to know” and “to learn” are insufficient to address the concerns we are facing as a global community.

Julio’s presentation inspired me to reflect on writing poetry under the moon. What does this mean to me? Am I too caught up in the day-to- day busyness of my life? (Note busyness and business - one letter difference) When do I take time out for quiet reflection and for connecting with nature? Both are very important activities for my sanity.

As temperatures hover between 40-45 C and soar to 50 C at times, I realize I am spending very little time connecting with nature. I have been privileged to attend monthly Star Gazing weekends up in the mountains with a club here in Oman. During the hot summer months this group goes up to the mountains where the temperatures are slightly cooler, a nice 35 C, and in the cooler winter months, into the desert. I treasure that time!

My indoor quiet reflection time is equally as restorative and I am ever so grateful to have developed a practice over the years. Yoga, energy work and spiritual exercises, all valuable practices for me in maintaining balance in a world that is evolving faster and faster.

For many of you it is the lazy hazy crazy days of summer in your geography. How will you write poetry under the moon this summer?

Re: How do you create a million dollar idea? Re: How do you create a million dollar idea? - I was listening to a talk show and they were discussing how popular the new movie "New Moon" (I think that's it....a vampire series) had become and they were saying how you never know what's going to trip a person's trigger and that you usually stumble upon a hit almost by accident. Same thing with certain toys. They never know which ones are going to be a hit until they release them....like the new fake hampsters. I think this is so true. You just have to keep a positive attitude and try to think like the consumer you are trying to target. I'm not sure there's a set formula for creating a million dollar book, toy, tool, etc.
