CONTROLLING STRESS
Most of us were brought up with clear expectations, pictures of how our lives were supposed to turn up. There is a mismatch between expectations and reality. We suffer because our lives fall short of our expectations. We feel that we do not have control over our lives, or the jobs we are engaged in.
Advocates of Conflict Theory contend that it is an empirical fact that conflicts of values and interests are inherent in all forms of society. The values and the interests of the employer and the employer may not be the same. There is a mismatch between the person and the society. A sense of hopelessness, paired with a reduction in motivation is likely to develop when people realise that they have no control over the events and outcomes. Evidence from many sources, including both human and animal experiments show that organisms respond differently when they have control on one hand and no control on the other.
If you consider that you have lost control over where your life is going, you may find it helpful to think about the following questions and then consider changing your life style:
Your lifestyle:
Are you trying too hard to maintain a certain lifestyle?
Are your interests and relationships subordinated to making money?
Have you got a Work Life Balance
How can you change the situation? What do you need to do to simplify your life?
