OVERCOMING STRESS-- MEDITATION
Meditation is a discipline that uses the power of the mind to control the thoughts, calm the body and achieve a state of heightened mental or spiritual awareness.
One type of meditation is one of concentrating the mind on an object rather than letting it wander to other things. Make sure that the objects you use for tranquillity are pleasant or tranquilising.
Some who meditate choose to focus on their breathing, where one puts full attention on the sensation of the inhalation and the exhalation. Venerable Ajahn Sumedho says in Mindfulness: The Path to the Deathless that: “With this practice, you begin to experience a calm mind, - and you become tranquil because you are cutting off all other impingements that come through the senses”. When putting your full attention on breathing, you do not try to create an image, but to concentrate on the ordinary feeling of your body, and to sustain concentration on your breathing. Exponents of this type of meditation state that the breath becomes more and more refined and you calm down.
