SPEAKING TO BE UNDERSTOOD

We have come out of meetings or discussions and felt that we have not really understood what the speaker or the other person had to say. Some individuals do not speak clearly, they mumble. Ann Mitchell a licensed speech pathologist recommends this exercise to those who tend to mumble: “Take a deep breath and exhale slowly while counting out loud—continue counting at a steady rhythm leaving about half a second between the numbers. Most adults can reach between 15 and 20 before they need to inhale. If you can’t get past 10 you need to practice deeper, more controlled breaths as you speak”.
People who speak clearly look more confident and assertive.
