Phenomenological Perspective: That which you believe will become your reality.

The mind is so powerful. Those things that we imagine can ultimately become our reality. The power of our mind can heal the sick and make the poor feel rich. In other words, your life situation is really a matter of your mind. If you can control your thoughts to believe that life is good and you are going to be okay, then you can get through any obstacle that arises. If you have an attitude of defeat and allow negative thoughts into your head, then defeat will plague you.

So how can you get rid of the negative thoughts in your mind and start thinking in a positive light? Maybe meditation is right for you, maybe prayer, or maybe extreme conscious thought can work for you. The power to control the mind starts first with the awareness of what it is you want to be thinking. If you know you are prone to being a pessimist and are ready to change that way of thinking, then you can begin by being aware of every negative thought you have. When that thought creeps into your consciousness, you can choose to change it. It may sound simple and in every sense of the exercise it is. However it can take a lot of practice and effort. But, why not give it a try? If you don’t like who you have become and how you think is bringing you down, then you can choose to make the conscious effort to change it. We can’t always control what happens in our lives, but we can control how we react to every situation.

How many times have you heard, “Just relax and it will happen.”? And how many times have you wanted to just strangle the person who said it to you? Ironically, trying to relax can be very stressful. Relaxing the mind is something that although it can’t be forced, it can be learned. If we do not give our mind a break once in a while, we can become overwhelmed and overloaded.

So if stress is a problem for you and you can never seem to shut your mind off, then there are different things you can do. A meditation of relaxing thoughts, chanted words or beautiful music can often clear the mind. Yoga is not only good for the body but also the mind. Doing yoga two to three times a week can help give you the tools to relax and allow yourself to unwind. It is also a proven fact that when you exercise, your body releases endorphins that can lift your spirits and clear your mind. Not to mention the benefits that exercise has on your body. I believe that being at your best in mind, body and spirit is the key to living a balanced life.

The Celebrity Apprentice - Episode 5 The Celebrity Apprentice - Episode 5 - In this week's 2 hour episode, I think the only logical choice was for Vinny to leave the show because he betrayed the trust of both the men and the women. Sure it was Piers' bad idea to spy on the women in the first place, but Vinny is a grown man capable of making his own decisions. For instance, if Vinny was such a noble person and felt so strongly against the ruse to begin with, he should've voiced his opinion from the start and not agreed to be used as a sacrificial pawn. At the end of the day, the celebrities are on a "reality show" and no one is pointing a gun at Vinny's head to be a rat, nor is Piers his "real" boss who he has to obey. On reality shows like "Survivor", "The Real World", "Project Runway", etc., contestants will lie, backstab and even cheat on their girlfriends or boyfriends to win the game...so being a rat or double agent is nothing new. Piers maybe ruthless and a jerk for the way he wanted to kick the women while they were down and manipulate poor Vinny, but he's just playing the game (and playing it well might I add). I think Vinny is taking the game too personally and as an actor, he should be able to tell the difference between reality and a "reality show".
Reality Shows Reality Shows - During the reality show mania, I've been trying to figure out why I can't stand the majority of the shows. But, I think Kevin's comments have put in words, why I hate most reality shows. When the purpose of a show is to cheat, scam, lie and batter others, its very simply not my choice in television "entertainment". I did watch the last season of the Amazing Race and I was overjoyed to see the well behaved team won for a change. On the Apprentice - imagine what the teams could accomplish if they kept the people who made the team better instead of scamming to eliminate the strong players. Sadly, some business people and others will act like that sort of behavior is how they should behave. Shri
Its Not Personal Its Not Personal - [quote="Tami Szabo":te20vywm]That's a good point, Shri. Piers did seem to relish in his unethical behaviour. I think I remember when Vinny left the show, Piers said something to Vinny about it not being personal and that business is business. It's almost like he was saying that it's OK to do nasty things in business so don't take it personally. To me business doesn't have to be the kind that cuts the heart out of the opponent. We can use our wisdom and all our bargaining skills, but we don't have to be jerks about it. In fact, if we are secure in our product or service, we don't need to call down the other side anyway. This is why I'm not all that keen about election campaigns that trash the competition. And that's a whole other point... does it really always have to be about competition, or is it about doing our absolute best regardless of what the others are doing? (Of course, I know we still need to be informed though.)[/quote:te20vywm] Very true - I cringe each time they behave like that and then say its just business. I've never found it necessary to cheat and shaft people to succeed and I'm very happy with the things I've done in business. It is more work to use our mind and work for a solution instead of being a jerk and a cheat. I think "reality TV" is skewing people's perception of reality - if the view of the world that reality shows present is true, the world's in bigger trouble than I thought. Shri
