Failure creates success! Part I

How many people out there are just plain afraid to fail?

I mean how many of you are real risk takers?

Or are you calculated risk takers?

Politically correct risk takers?

Slow, methodological thinkers?

If you were falling off a cliff and I threw you a rope would you wonder if it would hold you while you missed the chance to grab it?

Are you aware that in the business world today, one of the major keys that separates real leaders from the rest, one of the things that keeps most people in middle management, is simply fear?

Fear of making a decision – because I might make the wrong one.

Fear of failure – how will I look?

Fear of taking the chance – I could mess up.

Fear of risk – I could get fired.

If you lost it all today – so what.

Do you understand that it is so much easier to get it the second time around.

It really is because:

- you know what not to do

- which in turn creates less options that fail

- which in turn creates more chance of being a winner.

Look at the people you really, really, really respect.

They are usually the risk takers, the ones that put it all on the line.

The ones that seem to have no fear.

Why isn't that you?

What if you could get there?

Have you learned yet that the further up in an organization you go or the larger your organization grows, the:

bigger the impact of your decisions

less time you have to decide

less information you have to make the decision with.

Here is the bottom line for you, if you can't make the simple decision on buying paper clips, what will you do faced with laying off 1000 people? Fear?

One of the greatest problems today's formal education system is that it does not allow, does not teach, does not accept, does not support and does not use failure to create success. Instead it punishes it. It creates a great fear of failure. That same fear that holds you back so many times.

Please think about that for a moment.

Think about the things that have taught you the most in your business, life, career, family.

The reason my business and so many other businesses today are successful is because we have failed and failed and failed trying and we have learned from each experience and continued.

Wow!

Think about that for a moment and see what you come up with?

You see, we miss most of the opportunities in life because we just let them pass us by because of this fear of failure

And I am here to tell you that failure teaches us more than most other things in life.

Thomas Edison who failed more than 1000 times in building the light bulb, should he have stopped and just marketed what he had, something that did not work.

Should he have said, this is OK, it is almost there?

Should he have given up and said that is OK?

Of course not.

And we respect him and we use that quote more than most other quotes.

“Oh you got to keep going like Thomas Edison, you can't quite now”.

But we don't live it.

We talk about it, but we don't live it

We don't do it and the question is why not.

Answer that, get out there and take that chance, and see what happens in your life, business, family and career. Failure creates success.

Why A Project Fails? Why A Project Fails? - Hello Everyone As the size and complexity of ones business grows, so does their need to effectively manage projects. I have been thinking about the major reasons why a project can go wrong and my limited experience comes up with the following. 1 Leadership: A project manager with leadership skills and not just management skills. 2 Failure to (Foresee and) Plan 3 Failure to Manage: Ineffective change management control methods. Unclear decision making guidelines. 4 Talent: Finding, allocating and developing people 5 Scope: Setting an overly ambitious or amibigious project scope 6 Alignment: When projects are not prioritized in alignment with the business strategy, or project members personal objectives are not in tandem with that of the project / company 7 Lack of Candor: Communication Breakdowns I would be interested in knowing everyone's thoughts on this, especially on ways to overcome the above mentioned obstacles. Cheers!

Global Moderators Global Moderators - I've wanted to suggest this for a long time (pretty much ever since I became a moderator here) but I never seem to remember when I am actually here. It was on my mind just now so I decided to come post it before I forget again. Every forum I currently moderate or have ever moderated (other than this one) doesn't limit the moderators to certain sections like we do here. They have global moderators, which basically means every moderator has moderating powers in all (or almost all) sections of the forum. In my opinion, it is much better to do it that way. Currently only GT and Evan can moderate every section. The rest of us only have one section each. And really only GT does the global moderating because Evan is too busy with other stuff. That creates a problem when GT is not around. Spam often gets left for many hours and sometimes even days at a time. Plus it creates a lot more work for GT when he is here. Yes, he is usually pretty quick about getting to them but he shouldn't have to be the only one doing it. What happens when he gets sick? Or goes on vacation? Or is too busy to come here on certain days? Or just takes a break for a few days? I almost always report several spam posts every day then have to wait an unknown amount of time before GT gets to deleting them. But it would be a lot easier and better for the forum if mods could just delete them as soon as we see them. I'm also a member of a TON of forums that I don't moderate and it seems as though almost all of them do it the way I am suggesting. This is one of the few that only gives mods power over one section. Any thoughts?
