For The Times They Are A Changin
What
a great song by Bob Dylan.
A
real Classic.
But
it doesn’t matter if you are a Dylan fan or not, the times they are
definitely changing.
And
how you respond to those changes makes a huge difference in where you
go.
How
are you responding to the changing times?
That
is really what I want to look at today. How to help you begin to
understand what you need to do to move forward and create success in
all you do.
So
the question we tackle – how are you responding to change. How are
you handling that fact that the economy is now different? How are
you handling that it is not business as usual?
Are
you fighting it?
This
is one path that many take.
“I
will not change,” said the now out of business entrepreneur.
“I
have been doing this successfully for so many years and I will
continue to do it successfully just as I always have. And further, I
don't care who likes it.” Said the bankrupt owner of the former
business.
“I
am not changing”, said the now former employee collecting
unemployment.
Good
bye – you will make it for a bit, but if you fight it, you will
sink.
Do
you want to sink?
“Then
you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the
times they are a-changin'.” Dylan.
Are
you ignoring it?
This
may be even more dangerous.
You
see what is going on.
You
know what is going on.
And
you do business as usual.
But
you can only do this for so long before you lose.
“For
the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are
a-changin'.” Dylan.
Are
you running from it?
You
see it, but you are not going to let it effect you.
“Yes,
people are doing it that way now, but not me, I will continue to do
it as I always have.”
How
far do you really think you can run?
How
many places do you think you can find to hide in?
“It'll
soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times
they are a-changin'.” Dylan
Are
you trying to understand it?
Taking
time to see what it really means.
Taking
time to understand what effect it will have on you.
Taking
time to educate yourself and your team.
That
is Step 1.
“Please
get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the
times they are a-changin'.” Dylan
Are
you gravitating to it?
Moving
your organization to a different level.
Picking
up the good things that the change means and not the bad things.
All
change is not bad, regardless of what some people tell you.
You
know, people hate change.
Yet,
you lead and your team follows you.
If
you gravitate to the change – so will they.
You
fight it, so will they.
Step
2 – Gravitate to the change.
Are
you grabbing it and making all you can of it.
Making
it part of your operation.
It
may be tough for a bit.
Others
might ever surpass you for a little bit.
But
you are like the runner that holds a good position in the pack just
waiting.
Then,
as you get close, you sprint out and win the race.
Step
3 – grab hold and make it happen.
“And
the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are
a-changin'.” Dylan
The
only thing that never changes is that the change must always be
“Legal”, “Moral” and “Ethical”.
Yes,
the times they are a changing but are you.
Those
that change will excel
those
that don't – oh well.
The
choice, of course, is yours – what will it be?
